I'm due 10/4, currently 36 weeks & am considering getting the RSV vaccine while pregnant to protect my baby from it. It's supposed to protect baby for the first 6 months & decrease the risks of a RSV hospitalization. I'll be chatting with my OB about my risks & benefits of getting it. One worrisome side effect is the increased chance of preeclampsia......I had severe preeclampsia with my first pregnancy. 😮‍💨 Here's a link to learn more: https://www.cdc.gov/rsv/immunizations-protect-infants/index.html#:~:text=Who%20should%20get%20the%20maternal,can%20vary%20around%20the%20country.

Getting my RSV vax tomorrow. A heads up that you have to have it between 32-36 weeks if that's the choice you make!

Personally, I will be getting/have gotten my Tdap booster, Flu vaccine & RSV vaccine to try to give my little one as much immunity as possible. We are also limiting the amount of in person visitors that will see baby before their first round of vaccines to just immediate families and very close friends (all of whom also have to get their flu shots if they want to meet baby in person early).

@Monique I didn’t hear that it increases that risk. Did the OB say that?

Anyone thinking about getting it after birth and hoping to pass on antibodies through breastfeeding. Not sure if the pharmacist will even give it still at that point ?

@Brooke there is no research that suggests that the antibodies would be passed through breastfeeding and you would no longer be eligible for the vaccine post partum. However, you can give the baby the vaccine if you don't want to get it yourself. The increase in preeclampsia from the vaccine to the general population is actually only 0.4% (1.8% in the vaccine group and 1.4% in the control group) so the change in risk is incredibly small and still falls within margin of error.

@Mary Kathrine I have been negative my whole pregnancy for preeclampsia but I have gestational hypertension and on meds for that. I want it but on the fence
