Questioning my doctor

So here's the long story short. Son didn't gain weight since his last appointment maybe a month or 2 ago. He is in the one percentile but he gained 2 inches in height. The doctor wants him to gain weight. So after I breastfeed I'm supposed to give him 2 ounces of formula. He's supposed to have 6 ounces per feeding. When I pump I get 4 BUT a baby will always empty you better than a pump will. Then I'm supposed to feed him 4 ounces of purees at lunch and dinner. When I've tried giving him a bottle after breastfeeding he won't take it until like 30 minutes later. I just feel like this is overkill. He is developing fine. The doctor said besides being too skinny he is like every other 6 month baby. I just wonder why we are forcing food and not listening to his hunger cues. But my husband and MIL believe he needs to be bigger and gain more weight and I wonder why. He may just be like me tall and skinny. If he doesn't gain enough weight in 3 months they want to refer us to a pediatric dietitian to get him to put on weight. But motor skills, communication and cognitive is jsmust fine. What's everyone else think? Am I thinking wrong?

Have you seen an IBCLC and done a weighted feed? He should’ve gained some weight in two months.

He hasn’t gained *any* weight, or “not enough” weight? They are two different things. The concept of “enough” weight is 👎🏻. As long as he is gaining *some* weight and growing in height, then he is okay. Every baby is different. But if he isn’t gaining *any* weight in two months, despite height growth, then that’s something to get checked out. I would talk to an IBCLC for a second opinion. Your local hospital or WIC office should have one for free.

He hasn't gained any weight. Before his appointment he ate every 3 hours. A four ounce bottle at 10 and 1. Then breastfed at 7am and 4 pm and then before bed. He eats a 4 ounce container of purees at 5:30. He's happy and content but won't gain weight.

I've seen a lactation consultant like 3 times in 6 months now. And she says I'm doing everything right and he's getting milk so idk

I agree that you’re doing everything right. I don’t think this is a YOU problem. It sounds like there might be something medically happening that is making him not gain weight.

@Kaylah I agree with this it’s concerning that he isn’t gaining weight but you are doing everything right I would push to see a specialist to figure out what could be going on

I agree with the two ladies above I'd go see a specialist asap to rule out serious illness/disease

i looked up why babies have so much fat & gain weight so quickly and it’s for all the rapid growth & developments that are soon to come. so the weight that baby should be gaining is for the future when they’re walking and talking and discovering. however try your best not to stress about it cuz a stressed mom isn’t good for baby either. just continue to try your best cuz that’s all you can do.
