Ferber

Has anyone tried this and how long did it take to work, I made this post on the first time mum group but people just posted about how it’s cruel and isn’t good for development is that true?

I used it for my guy. Had to retrain him after one of the regressions. I want to say the first time he was like 6 months and it took maybe a week. So much easier because he couldn’t stand at the time. This past time he was over a year old and he caught back on within 4 days. Now we go in there and lay him down and he’s quiet while he falls asleep. Nap time is another story😅

Ferber works well for many families. How old is your child?

@Shannon he’s 7m

@Chelsea amazing I’m glad it worked for you mind hasn’t started standing yet so hopefully it’ll work and he’ll catch on before the 8mo sleep regression

7 months is a great age for any time interval style training like Ferber. Make sure schedule, sleep environment, and bedtime routine is all good first to increase the chances of the sleep training working faster and easier!

Took us 5 days at 6 months old, best thing we ever did. People say they learn no one’s coming if they cry and it’s not true. If he cries now I instantly come in if it’s longer than a few minutes because I know somethings actually wrong. If he cries in the morning he knows I’ll come & get him up. We used interval check ins, 3,5,7,10 mins

@Shannon amazing thank you so much

@Aimee thank you, people on another group have told me it’s cruel, that I might end up harming him if he cries too much (I would never) and that it teaches them you won’t come when they need you which is all crap I’m glad it worked for you & we’re doing the same at the moment so really hoping it works

It's worked for us! My baby is happier now she is better rested. We are entering another regression however so she's not sleeping through the night like she was - but still had great success for the first 6 weeks or so - I think we need to return to it when she's stopped teething/regressing. Ferber method has years and years of data that prove it's fine for babies. Mine had absolutely cried more when I was holding her than when I've let her settle in the cot herself! Good luck with whatever method works for your family xx

@Kirsty Bunning how exactly did you do it? Did you follow the Ferber method exactly? And was there ever a point where you’d try soothe baby and she wouldn’t stop crying until you picked her up?
