GD Blood test

Sorry I’m new to all of this, I’m being tested Friday for GD but with a blood test instead. They’ve said I’ll have to take tablets if I do have it but nothing else, does this require me to prick my finger for blood?

So the GD blood test is basically you go , get blood taken, drink a weird drink they give you , go back in 2 hours and they take another blood test. If you do have GD and they are saying you need to take tablets they will probably require you to prick your finger maybe once a week, or maybe not. Would depend on the level of GD you had. I would suggest you don’t worry until you have the appointment and find out for certain

@Hannah Dionne Oh wow so lots of blood taken then. I have most of the symptoms but I’m hoping I don’t have it, the finger pricking I’m terrified of😅

It’s literally just 2 vials. Like one vial , twice. You might not need to finger prick anyway. I’m not sure about that to be honest. I think finger pricking not really required unless it’s like really bad. But just speak to them if it turns out you do have it and make them aware that’s a concern you have x

I have GD. You get your blood taken then drink the glucose drink then depending on your trust, you either get it taken once at the 2 hour mark or once at the 1 hour and once at the 2 hour. I had to get 3 sets of blood drawn. You won't find out if you need medication until after you get the results. I don't need any, I'm diet controlled and have been for 9 weeks now. Usually they get you to alter your diet to suit diabetes and if your readings are still high after the change then medication may be introduced and if they are still high insulin might be needed. If you get diagnosed you will have to finger prick. First thing in the morning and after all meals. I have to prick before meals too. I was petrified of needles, petrified of blood. Honestly it was my biggest fear but it's not that bad. So a minimum of 4 times per day even if needing medication.

I had to go for a finger prick test before my actual GD test, they do one set of bloods before and another 2 hours after. The drink is really gross but there's no way around it unfortunately. I got my diagnosis 6 weeks ago, I had been diet controlled until this week which I have now been moved onto Metformin tablets. I do 4 finger prick tests a day one when I get up in the morning and one after each meal. You get used to the finger prick tests, I didn't get on with the lancet pen so I had to have some more meaningful needles but they aren't too bad

Thankyou everyone🩷the woman who tested asked what I had for breakfast/last night and she said it shouldn’t be that high anyway over some cocopops and pasta? I’m not sure how true that is. I’m terrified of needles and self prick tests, two blood tests oh lord😂 xx

During covid time they randomly tested me for GD at the midwife clinic and I had a snickers for breakfast as I wasn't told to fast . This time around i had the test and only jist passed it despite fasting the night before . It is literally go get blood taken, have a drink, sit and wait 2 hours then another round of blood and results in morning
