Mam bottles! Did anyone else know!

I’ve just read that you should never pour boiling water into the bottle! Is this common knowledge?!! I’ve always used the hot shot method using the Tommie Tippee cooler but I’ve always measured out the boiling water from my mam bottle? Does anyone else do it this way with there mam bottles ? Feeling like I’m going to have to go out and buy new bottles. It says “it can put a considerable amount of pressure on the bottle, which could affect the product function and increase the risk of scalding. But also destroy the nutrients in the formula. This is why it is extremely important to allow boiled water to cool”. 😩

Iv been doing the hot shot too

Ive been doing the hot shot too, and even done a whole feed of boiling water in there too a couple of times and not had any issues :)

what is hot shot method l?

Putting in 30ml of boiling hot water with formula to kill the bacteria then adding you cooled down water x

I'm pretty sure with prepping formula in general you are meant to boil the kettle then leave to cool for 20 mins before prepping bottle.. but you can still do the hot shot method as the water is still hot 😊

@Lotte I’m a FTM and I’ve never been told that I need to leave the boiled kettle for 20 mins before making up a bottle 🫣😳seems I’ve done it all wrong. I literally boil the kettle and put it straight in my mam bottle to measure 120ml, pour and cool around 90ml in my cooler and add formula to the remaining 30ml in my mam bottle to do the hot shot method

My Lo would not wait 20 mins to cool she will literally wake up and be screaming within 5 mins of realising she’s hungry

@Lana same! As soon as she starts doing her cues she cries within 5 minutes lol At lease I’m not the only one 😂

Nope definitely not only one lol

NHS don’t recommend hot shot method and I’ve never seen any baby company either We were told that actual boiling water kills nutrients in formula But cold water doesn’t kill the bacteria So you need that sweet spot which is why things like the nuby rapid cool is approved Prep machines are not as they are boiling water :(

And you can premake formula, just means it will be cold as in fridge or wait to warm it

Oh goodness me. Call me stupid but I’m all confused with all the instructions on the formula tin, practices I see on Insta, and mummies do here on Peanut. Formula tin instruction says to cool down the boiling water for 30min. then make fresh bottle everytime. Bubba almost always doesnt have half an hour to be patient for his food. I see mums on Insta, would prep how ever many bottles for the day and pop them in the fridge and warm them before giving to their bub. And now there is hot shot method! So has the cooled down water, thats being mixed with the boiled, been sterilised previously as well??
