When I was diagnosed I was devastated and felt so stressed but after a few days (once I got my head round it) I felt so much calmer. The important thing is that it’s been picked up and now they can monitor you to make sure you and baby are both doing ok. Mine could be controlled by diet but sometimes that’s not possible and you need medication, but either way your diabetes team will be able to talk you through it all I found the gestational diabetes uk website (there’s also a facebook page) SO useful for information and recipes - the GD friendly brownies were my fave. It feels so scary and overwhelming but you’ll be ok. It was tough to deal with at the time (all I wanted was chocolate!) but my baby was born perfectly healthy at 40+2 and is now a thriving 2 month old. Best of luck x

Hey! I had GD too and I couldn’t stop crying when I found out. It can take some time to come to terms with it but you’re not alone! There’s a lot of information online, you have the midwives and you can also message me privately too. Mine couldn’t be controlled by diet so I was on insulin. To be honest I limited my carb intake as much as I could even whilst being on insulin. So I had things like cheesy eggs and avocado for breakfast or an omelette, strawberries & raspberries with cream as a dessert or a one off home made cheesecake with zero sugar biscuits (they’re a bit higher in carbs) used sweetener as a sugar replacement. I also bought a whole load of low carb bread from Heylo, it’s expensive but I’d make cheese on toast, have a full English, make toasties etc and it tastes pretty good too. I also used to make things out of almond flour so a pizza base for example. BUT, that’s just what worked for me, you may find you don’t need to do half of what I did 😊.

Hey! I had GD, due to family history. Not the end of the world, just more closely monitored and you get to see baby a few more times for scans which is nice! Mine wasn’t controlled by diet alone or just metformin tablets so I had to use all three - diet, metformin and insulin injections. My experience was fine, not permanent and they just keep a close eye on you and baby xx
