Solids

What’s the truth about solids? I get myself all worked up about how much food baby should be ‘playing with’ a day! Some people say it’s just for fun and it doesn’t really matter. Then I see others who’ve dropped milk feeds because baby has 3 ‘meals’ a day! It’s stressing me out so much. I don’t know what I’m doing, no matter how much I read on the subject. I’d just like to know what everyone else is doing really? And what types of food you’re feeding. We’ve started with purées and finger foods, but finding things to make for baby is also a worry for me.

I get you and sorry it’s stressing 😣 Baby food ideas - the simplest and less stressful is give baby what you’re eating. How much they should eat and when to stop feeds all depends on the baby - if say your baby eats a lot of the solids in the morning he/she will be full and only take a small amount of milk. The more full they get on solids the less milk they’ll need. For some babies this may not happen until 8-9 months . For others they take to eat like duck to water and are already dropping feeds.

It definitely all depends on the baby. We do 3 meals a day and have only dropped 1 or w feeds. She's been EBF till the introduction of food and has been trying to steal our food since 3 months. She gets new foods during the day and purees for dinner. She's a tall slim little thing and has mastered crawling ao burns energy soooo quickly. Honestly if 1 meal a day works for you then take it! I find I'm preparing 10 meals a day with BLW, me being vegetarian and my partner isn't I feel like I live in the kitchen

Mines now on 4x 7oz bottles a day (and normally 3-4oz during the night), but she’s eating LOADS to the point where I think she’s possibly over eating … maybe? She can really put it away and make a fuss when it’s over 😅 Breakfast - porridge or fruit and yogurt Lunch - some kind of a carb like pita or crumpets + a slice of fruit Dinner - puree veg or something mushed like peas and potato I think trialling textures and a load of different fruit and veg has worked in our case as she’s not solely eating 1 type of consistency.

I did a weaning workshop and it really helped. Maybe see if there is anything by you or speak to your HV as I always ask for advice when I get baby girl weighed. My little girl has been super fussy with food, didn't really swallow anything until 7 months and even now, spits a lot out or won't open her mouth for food. The HV said it's fine, just keep offering both finger food and purées so that's what I'm doing. The weaning workshop I went to said their portion size is the palm of their hand so think how tiny that actually is to make them full. Dropping bottles should be the last thing as milk is the most important over food until they are 1. They will generally move to 3 meals a day around 9-10months so we have ages to go. Obviously all babies are different and it may happen earlier or later with others so please try not to compare or listen to family!

We currently do 1 meal a day always and sometimes 2-3 depending on what we're doing and where we are. She's currently extremely cranky and clingy at the moment, so it's not possible for me to actually make the 3 meals a day. However, she absolutely would eat that. Well, play mostly, but she has only just started to swallow food. She hasn't dropped any feeds either and I'm in no rush for her to.

Mine currently on 1 meal with the occasional snack. I will be moving to 2 meals soon as she is crawling now, but she's in the play pen so she can't go far. I am just going by her really. Fitting food is I am struggling with. I barely have time to eat myself.

I think with the bottles it just depends if they want it for example my baby has lunch at 12 and then meant to have a bottle at 1pm he sometimes refuses this bottle so I just don’t bother with it! That’s the way I look at it and how I would start dropping bottles! X
