Leaving the childminder

Hi everyone! We’re moving our little girl from a childminder to a nursery. We’re not happy with the care she’s receiving, lack of activities and outdoor time and massive fee increases. I don’t know how to tell the childminder. I see her often as we live close so I don’t want it to be awkward or uncomfortable. I’m not confrontational at all! Any ideas on how to break the news? She’s been going since 8 months old and she’s almost 3 TIA

We had to do this a while back and we just said he's now got a space in the attached nursery to the school we want him to go too. She was fine with that 😊

We had to do it too recently. It doesn't feel nice but... Everyone has to go through it all the time. Childminders are totally used to it. Kids come and go all the time for various reasons. You can just say thank you and move or you can be honest. We just said thank you so much. It's been great for the time being but we feel our little girl has outgrown the size of your space and as she is growing up so fast we think a nursery is the next best step for her. You can also say you have chosen a school for her and the school would like her to be in their nursery at least 1 year before be reception and thus you think it'll be easier just to move her now anyway. (that really happens!).

I feel nursery provided ALOT more for my daughter in terms of education than a childminder. Our CM was really just keeping her busy, looking after her and taking her for play time. Where nursery spends more time in educational activities combined with play. From my experience anyway. Your CM would be fine and nothing awkward. They are used to it.

Agree with all above. And yes, we moved out from a childminder too. Our needs outgrew the childminders capacity to provide. Our child is thriving. And 3 is a perfect age to move into a preschool- they learn those essential life skills in a bigger environment. Oh and I remember- when I mentioned we were leaving - CM was accepting and said - it is a revolving door - kids move to the next stage of life.

Thank you all! I told her tonight when I collected, she was a bit arsey but at least it’s done now! We’ve not been enjoying taking her for a while now so hopefully she’ll thrive at the nursery in January! 💕

Oh she will enjoy nursery!! Good job telling the childminder. Good luck

Well done for telling her. The hard bit is done 😊 Our little boy was bored of the childminder and never wanted to go and now he absolutely loves nursery. The best move we did xx
