Not every child is developing at the same age or time. There are children like mine who are delayed, like with his speech. When his pediatrician did mention the early intervention referral i wanted to wait to see if things would develop for him & with the help of me of course. But nothing has progressed so the next time i went to his appointment i wind up asking her to give me another referral for early intervention. I personally feel like it’s never anything wrong with wanting to get your child help. You are their advocate so if you feel like your child is delayed in some things or you have some concerns, there is nothing wrong with addressing that or wanting to get that help for your child.
Your baby might be a bit delayed. The system is not pushing things to a young age, it’s the complete opposite. Due to so many kids having speech delays mostly because of how we live and interact nowadays. Milestones are no longer being met at the right time with the excuse of every kid develops at its own pace. And tho that’s true, there’s a specific time to intervene. I would advise you to do the consultation for an early intervention. I’m the end it benefits your kid so much, they will develop their language skills pretty quickly with help, in comparison with how he would on his own. My 20 month old, already knows more than 100, and it’s making 2 word sentences. Speaking clearly and some babbling when “having a conversation” I understand how I probably sound if someone that’s worried or upset reads what I’m writing, but I am not trying to sound rude, just telling you that is not too early, it’s the right time. And to prove the milestones point I made, google how many…
Words should a 2yo know. The amount is far less what my child knows. And I’m not saying my baby isn’t super smart, cause I know he’s brilliant. But in my case my child has no screen time at all and that has positively affected his speech. Mama knows best. You already felt like your baby needed a speech therapist, if insurance covers it from 18 M or 2 y, then 3 Y is a bit late.
I’m starting to think all these kids aren’t delayed and it’s the system pushing things at too young an age.
