How do you feel about Semantics!

“Semantics is the study of meaning in language, including how meaning is created, interpreted, and negotiated by speakers and listeners. It is a sub-discipline of linguistics that is closely related to pragmatics, the study of meaning in context” “A common example of semantics in everyday life is when someone says they bought a "new" car, but it's actually a used car that is new to them, highlighting how the meaning of "new" can depend on the context and individual interpretation; essentially, the word "new" has a different semantic meaning in this situation than its typical usage.”

All I know is everyone would react differently to being invited to a “cottage in the forest” vs a “cabin in the woods” 🥴

I personally don’t get the question. Semantics is an unavoidable part of life unless you do not communicate with anyone. I don’t feel anything about semantics. I don’t think about it unless I’m having to analyse literature or discuss meanings with my class to help them to infer things.

@Steph lol I just decided to pose the question cause I know some people despise semantics existing at all in language. I find semantics really fun and interesting. Ps you might not think about semantics but your comment was a great example of semantics coming about. (:

my so loves semantics
