Feeding help

Hey mamas I need help so my LO is 1 month today and he drink 4 oz every feeding. He's been having some stomach issues with spit up and diarrhea the past two days. But he's been able to tolerate 4oz on a daily. Took him to the doc and she wants me to give him only 2oz every two hrs because she says 4oz is too much for his age. I read they should be at 4oz or up to 4oz by now. He's never satisfied with just 2 and will scream bloody murder until he gets more food. What do I do I mean he's not losing weight In fact he's gaining it well. Do I follow what she says or do I follow my mama ways? Any advice would be great thanks.

Try paced feeding before adding more. I was having the same problem with my LO and it turns out he was just eating too much. If you do paced feeding and he still not satisfied with 2oz, I would try adding more little by little until you find the right amount

@Paola to piggy back on this response also offer top up amounts of like 1 or 1.5 oz he may still want more but only need and oz not 2 my dude is ebf but sometimes I offer an oz top up bottle from my pumped milk that feeding if he just won’t settle when his feeds are close together. It’s worked well for us & he is a month old tomorrow.

We were having similar issues and ends up his cries for food were actually discomfort due to gas and reflux. Getting a better burping routine and medicine for reflux resolved it, along with paced feeding.

Following. 5 weeks and also doing 4oz each feed

I started doing 3 oz feeds during the day and a 4 oz at night for my 5 week old. I also burp him and keep him upright for 30-45 mins after each feed per my pediatricians advice, and it seemed to help his gas and fussyness. Hope this helps, and I hope you get it figured out. Trust your gut, momma! You got this! 🩵

@Brooke thank you! I'll try that

@Brooke how often do you do the 3oz during the day and 4oz at night if you don't mind me asking?

My baby is 1 month and also doing 4 oz, my doctor said that usually they aren’t eating that much at that age but as long as she is taking it good and not spitting up to keep her at 4 oz. They said she’s gaining weight really good.

@Abby my boy is gaining weight as well it's just hard to see them sad when they want more and the doc says no but we know our kids the best.

That’s what I’m saying! They told me that it might’ve been too much for her but I knew it wasn’t, she used to do 3 but would just cry and cry and ever since I started giving her 4 she’s been perfectly fine! We really do know them best :)

She did say that if she started having stomach problems to try switching her to the gentle ease Enfamil formula, not sure if you’re doing formula though mama.

@Josie We are doing baby led feedings (idk if you are doing the same). We are also doing part breast milk and part formula. - I am not producing enough for him - He takes about 2oz of breast milk (which is not as heavy as formula, so it takes less time to digest) and 3 oz of formula that he eats over about an hour with burping in between. He is a "lazy" eater, so he falls asleep easily, but I will still immediately burp him. If he wakes up during the burp, he will usually take the bottle again. I know he's full when he doesn't wake up, but he still burps. He does still spit up, but as long as he has burped, it is usually just a little bit, and that's normal. At his 4-week checkup, the doctor said he would start pooping less, and it would start to get hard . That hasn't happened, yet 😆 he still has about 3-4 loose stools daily, and he farts a lot. I read that as long as the poops are not green (even if they are loose), it is normal.

We also give him sensitive stomach formula. We never gave him the regular kind - not sure if that was a good option, but because he's on breast milk too, I figured it was a good idea. - He sleeps for about 3-4 hours and is growing and happy. Sorry this is so long. I just want to give you all the advice/knowledge I have. This shit is hard sometimes, and there is no rule book. Feed your baby, listen to him, trust your instincts, and most importantly, just remember you can always switch pediatricians if you don't feel they are listening to you or giving you credit for being his mom. 🩵 I really hope this helps! Good luck! Feel free to message me if you need 💕

I've got him on Similac sensative and he's been doing so much better
