Really worried about my baby’s new feeding habit 🥺

Sorry for the long essay but as of last week our baby has started being sick during and after his bottles. However it’s got so much worse in the last 48 hours. Now he asks for a bottle and since he was born I usually divide the bottle roughly into 4. So for every quarter i pause to burp him, not excessively but enough to hear one or two burps so that they don’t build up. It’s worked for us so far. However now if I take him off the bottle he screams and will not go back on for love no money. I try re offering it to him for ages after but nope 👎 nothing I do will make him feed again and sometimes he’s only had 30-40 mls. So what I have to do is keep him on the bottle till he’s drank a decent amount or as much as he can manage but if we do that he will scream and scream and projectile vomit everywhere. He then kicks his legs, I can’t lay him down and he will only want to be in the over the shoulder position. He is already a CMPA baby so we’re on a prescription formula and it’s been 5 weeks and all of sudden I’m wondering if this milk is also not agreeing with him 😢 I’m so worried as he’s definitely not eating enough and it’s showing as he doesn’t do as many wet nappies like he usually would. I don’t want him getting dehydrated. I will phone the doctors tomorrow but wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to what the problem could be? Or has experienced a similar issue?

My little girl recently refused the bottle the same way, I’ve changed the tear to the next flow and it seemed to have solved the problem! Have you tried this? Xx

Ahh sorry to hear you’ve been experiencing the same issue. It did cross my mind about the teats today because we haven’t changed the size since he came home from the hospital. Do you know why that might be making the issue? I don’t really understand the difference except that it’s to do with the flow?

So minus the CMPA/reflux problem - we recently changed baby girls milk as she was struggling to go to the toilet and passing stools would stress her out. Anyway - she began refusing the bottle and spitting up any milk we had given her, to literally the same situation she began taking only 30ml and refusing to take more. I thought maybe it was the milk because she had only been on it for two weeks - but I’ve now put her onto the next teat size and she started taking her bottle again no problem. Don’t get me wrong, CMPA doesn’t help the situation because you could be absolutely right regarding his milk, but bubba might be getting frustrated he can’t get the milk as quick as he wants or his working too hard for the milk and is getting himself in a state which in turn could make himself sick? Worth a change to try as you’ll only need to up size in future anyway xxx

My LO did this last week. Currently 9 weeks old. I was doing the exact same, stopping feeding to burp and then resuming but she suddenly started refusing it back even if she had only had a tiny bit. I changed up a teat size because the health visitor said she could be getting bored if the milk isn’t coming quick enough and then giving up. She’s been fine ever since x

Thanks for the advice. I’ve just ordered the next size up, I’ve got nothing to loose. You are right better than trying something more drastic like changing his milk again or going to the GP just yet.

My nephew was a nightmare (several years ago) but if you took the bottle out of his mouth he would not put it back in so ended up that he would just take the whole bottle.
