Christmas presents

How much have people spent/are spending on their kids for Christmas? I said to myself I wouldn’t go as mad as I did last year, but I definitely have 😅 I’ve probably spent £250-£300 all in on my daughter for Christmas presents, stocking, 1st December box etc. For background she’s an only child and I’m a single parent. Her dad is still in her life (but not loads), and has got her 1 present so far. He’s said he’s going to do the rest of his Christmas shopping on 20th December when he gets paid, but if that year is anything to go by then he won’t be getting her much more. I only ask because my mum always makes comments on how ridiculous I’m being for getting her so much, but I didn’t feel like I was being that bad, and according to Google AI the average UK family spends £420 on Christmas presents per child 🤷🏻‍♀️

Probably about £200 his main present is an electric car that was £100 then we got a wooden kitchen when it was in the sale for £30 and have bought loads of wooden food/pans etc

I think you should do whatever you’re comfortable with, especially as she’s an only child. I think what you’ve spent is a decent amount but not overboard. Don’t worry about people’s judgment, just do whatever is right for you xx

Spend what you like based on what you can afford. I think at this age they love unwrapping anything !

Honestly, as long as you can afford whatever you’re spending without sacrificing on day to day stuff, what does it matter to anyone? It always baffles me when people have opinions on how others spend their money. We haven’t bought presents yet and we don’t have a set budget but I imagine between big present (which will be about £150 for a bike or scooter), stocking, a few other presents and Christmas Eve box we’ll probably end up around the £300 mark x

I won’t lie- I have a 3.5 year old and a 14 month old and both of their ‘main’ presents are second hand off Facebook. I couldn’t spend the amount for new and managed to find almost new for an absolute bargain. That’s meant I can spend a bit more on a few more bits. It really doesn’t matter how much you’ve spent. Children don’t understand the value of money right now. I’m sure they’ll be grateful for anything under the tree xx
