Highly sensitive child

So my kid seems to be a lot more sensitive than other kids and he cries quite a bit every time he’s redirected or even mild inconvenience. It’s just tears. I feel really bad that seems to be overwhelmed and upset when he doesn’t get his way and I’m not sure how to deal with it. I’m afraid the constant crying will hurt him emotionally in the long run. For example, I was eating something spicy and I told him that it’s for mommy and he started crying hysterically or whenever I go to the bathroom he cries like he’s been hurt. He had to wait his turn for the slide and he threw a 20 minute fit.

Crying won’t hurt him, toddlers cry all the time. Just be strong and keep redirecting. You can always bring it up with your pediatrician if it doesn’t get any better, but that’s a fun part of this age. My son is similar and I’m loosing my mind lol. Of course we’ve started doing corrections to bad behavior as well and he’s improved drastically. He’s not a gentle child😅 I tried that approach and failed miserably

@Elizabeth yeah mine isn’t gentle in the slightest he’s a little tornado I just notice he cried a lot more often then other kids. My pediatrician just says he will outgrow it

Try to stay encouraged, I know this age is so so tough (one of my least favorite I think) but it’ll get easier! Some little ones are more sensitive than others! If you feel you aren’t being heard by your pediatrician feel free to ask a second opinion! But you usually can’t diagnose autism etc until at least three if that’s your concern. My son has greatly benefited from firm boundaries and a schedule. He tends to be more emotional on the days we aren’t able to follow the routine.
