Is this normal toddler behavior or not?
My 25 month old daughter isn’t speaking much. She goes “Nnnn! Nnnn!” when she wants something. I say the word of what things are (all the time) and she won’t try to repeat or even mimic anything close. Since I can’t understand what she’s “saying” or actually wants like 75% of the time, she gets super frustrated and sometimes hits herself repeatedly on her forehead. It’s as if she’s mad at herself/her brain for not being able to get the word out? She also doesn’t say “mama” yet. She calls both of us dada.
Other words she says besides dada, are: hat, head, bottle, bubbles, uh oh (appropriately), yum! (appropriately) and whoa!/yay! (appropriately). She also knows that tigers, lions, dinosaurs etc. go “roarrr!” and she makes that sound, so she’s not completely non-verbal. Is this considered speech-delayed? Should we be getting her professional help?
Another concern I have is how she behaves at home. She started full time daycare Monday-Friday a month ago. She does really well there: eats the food they give her, doesn’t seem to have any outbursts, seems happy in the pics and live stream cams. But as soon as she gets home with her dad and me, she’s crying and hitting us and won’t eat what we give her for dinner. She scream-cries in the bathtub (which she didn’t ever do before) and during diaper changes… it’s really bizarre and very stressful.
I’m a FTM and I haven’t been around many kids this age so I have no idea what’s normal or not. TIA for any input or advice.
My daughter is diagnosed with speech delay. She is also 25 months rn. From what you wrote i would get her checked asap, reach out to the “early intervention” I think it’s a federal program, they are amazing with their assessment and services
