Switching to formula

At my daughter’s 2 month appt her doctor was a bit concerned that she wasn’t gaining as much weight as she’d like. She said she’s still gaining a good amount but not what she’d like. I breastfeed/pump but my baby is drinking 5-6oz bottles and I don’t produce enough to keep up with that especially with me going back to work and not having enough to leave with her to feed her while I’m gone. Do I need to talk to my pediatrician before I try to wean her off BF to formula? My mom is telling me that I have to have my pediatricians approval before I can do that and that I should just produce more milk.

Talk to your doctor about adding formula to the breast milk my daughter was a preemie and we had to add formula to my breastmilk. She still wasn’t gaining enough so I did switch her. But ask about that if you still want to breastfeed

Of you want to you can always message me

Have you thought about combo feeding? My friends who don’t produce as much milk do this and it seems to work well! And the baby gets the benefits of both breastmilk and formula ☺️ Some do breastmilk in day and formula at night Others do every 2nd feed is formula GLx

@Hope that’s what I wanna do but my mom told me I can’t unless I talk to my doctor first

I was told at my 2 month appointment my guy is too small still and we tried everything to increase my supply so maybe it’s just not going to happen for me. So now I have to up his formula to every 2 hrs and 4oz bottles after 10 minutes of breastfeeding. We have been topping up with formula since his first week. There’s no harm in combo feeding. Just don’t leave them on breast for too long as the doc said our issue is he’s probably using up too much energy on them vs what he’s getting. But keep doing it to keep your supply up if you really want to keep breastfeeding

@Ren yeh doctors are useful but lactation consultants will be better for this stuff tbh xx

@RenAre you saying you only able to produce 5-6oz in a whole day? And also you’re doing a great job momma. Breastfeeding and pumping is hard work 😓 if only men knew.

@Ariel with a good pump I can get 5-6oz but by the time she’s hungry again she’ll eat off both breasts and she’ll still be hungry. That’s the problem I’m having bc I’m trying to store milk for when I go back to work and I’m not producing enough to do that

Have you tried pumping after breastfeeding and storing that way or if she can sleep a good chunk of the night away pump at night every 2 hours (which I have been there and it is exhausting just to warn you)

@Ren

@Ariel currently she will only sleep if I nurse her. We lay down and she nurses til she falls asleep
