Am I being heartless or is it valid to feel like he should stay and get the job done?

Y'all already know we've been having some problems with our new apartment. Well this morning our heat went out. It's the end of November in Ohio, it's pretty cold. I have 2 under 2, the youngest being only 4mo. I called the office about it and an hour later the maintenance man showed up. He'd been here for a little over an hour trying to fix it. He had one phone call where he was receiving instructions on what to do. The next phone call he had he was arguing for several minutes with someone about tools. He's left twice since he's been here. And now I'm bundled up on the bed with the baby and he comes to tell me he's leaving again and he's taking lunch and will come back after. Like,, I get that you need to eat ofc but I'm here freezing holding a baby and you're gonna leave to go eat? Like enjoy your food while I'm stuck here freezing.

and he took the batteries out of the thermostat and just left them on the floor?? I'm glad I found them before I let my toddler out of the room 🙃

@Tiffany Gomez ♌️ He left at 1:50 and it's almost 2:40 so if he's not here before 3 I'm definitely calling the office again. I know it'd probably be unprofessional but I would've happily made his ass a sandwich with our food if he would've stayed and kept working! 🤣😭😭

He seems kinda lazy.. our maintenance man would never he came at 9 pm because our hot water wasn’t working and sat there fixing it lol 😭😭 I would be reporting him leaving so often and arguing on the phone and leaving stuff out to just be choked on

@Patience tbf the 2 times he left were brief but omg taking lunch after trying to fix it for a little over an hour feels kinda crazy when you're leaving a mom and 2 littles to freeze. I'm definitely going to be informing the office of it and of the other problems they're just failing to fix properly (like the pest issues and some recaulking that needs done). Absolutely ridiculous the price we've paid to move in and how it's just been problems so far 😒

My mom can come pick them up after 4pm since she's working but I was really so sure he'd have it fixed by then. He's still not back yet.

He's now been gone for the same amount of time he was here for 🙃 I'm giving him 10min to show up and then I'm calling

I called and they said he hasn't marked it off yet so he knows he needs to come back (I knew that and then told them he said he was taking lunch at 1:50 but hasn't returned yet). They said they'll send a reminder but basically that's it for now. Let's recap this BS: I reported the problem at 11:40am 12:40pm he arrives 1:50pm he leaves to take lunch its now 3:25pm and he's not returned 🙃

@FairyMother yea it’s not acceptable at all in my opinion hopefully you get it fixed soon

@Patience Yea I'm honestly just confused atp on where he'd even be??? Like did dude just go home and make himself a homemade meal? Did he go get tools he needed after a quick lunch? I've got no idea but I'm getting pissed, I do not deal well with the cold

@FairyMother he’s probably in his truck on tik tok lol 😭😭 I would be pissed too considering the littles. It’s just inconsiderate. I get taking a lunch but lunches usually aren’t over an hour and in my fiancé job you don’t do ANYTHING till the job is done and that’s most places so I’m really wondering what he’s even doing

@Patience I was already so annoyed about him taking lunch but taking over an hour to lunch?! Knowing damn well I'm under multiple blankets with a baby and a toddler?! It's so crazy

@Patience I agree here and the landlord should also be putting a pep in this man’s step! lol my landlords handy man has another job but when she needs him he is here doing what needs to be done even if it’s at night

Actually now I feel this falls on the landlord more than anything to be honest. If the landlord isn’t worried why would the handy man be worried type thing you know?

@Jodi yea considering this probably isn’t the first time he’s done this to someone the landlord HAS to know?? I would be reporting anyhow maybe I’m petty for it but I take freezing to death serious lol 😭😭

And nobody come at me, but we do not have enough winter clothes yet and my toddler recently grew out of her socks. We just went to the thrift store and got her leggings and long sleeve shirts so I've got her in those but her feet are getting cold so I may have to put her snow boots on. I thought we had more time to get new socks in a size up, did not expect this shit so soon 🥲😭. Baby is very warm in a sleeper. And I've ran out of long pants for myself so I'm a tank top and shorts with a robe over it.

@Jodi Unfortunately there's not much of a landlord, it's more like a company 🥲

@FairyMother I get it girl I just got my daughter winter clothes cuz she grew out of everything like a damn growth spurt lol I still need to get her some more socks or at least fuzzy ones

Miss clicked! Definitely valid!

@Patience They're hard to keep up with!! I know she'll get tons of clothes for Christmas and her birthday and I thought we'd be good to wait until then but I guess we should go clothes shopping again ASAP 😅

Landlord or corporate still have same legal responsibility

@Tiffany Gomez ♌️ True, but definitely not the same urgency or care from what I've seen 🥲😭 I wish there was just one individual person I could talk to but it's always multiple people working there

it's now past 4pm and he's still not here 🙃

would y'all fucking believe that he just showed back up to drop off the smallest space heater and told me he'll be back tomorrow morning? 🙃🙃🙃

@FairyMother are you fucking serious? 😭😭

@Patience And the reason??? Because another unit doesn't have power and so all of them are working on that 🙃

My mom brought us a larger space heater and I plugged the big one into the living room and the small one in the kids room and it literally overdid our power and flipped it off so I can only use one at a time 🙃

That is not right at all they could have had your heat fixed and not all of them need to be working on unit with power out. Keep calling office and if there’s a corporate number call them. Call housing authorities as well https://www.hud.gov/states/ohio/renting/hawebsites. They are breaking laws, being inhumane, and negligent. Check out the legal websites I provided earlier see if they can assist you also try calling/texting 211 they might have resources to help with situation and provide other resources to possibly find other housing. You need to speak up, stand ground and move out things will only keep getting worse as the winter progresses. 211 can most likely help you find temporary housing and financial assistance for new housing. Your family and other tenants deserve better especially with how rent prices are these days in the USA. https://www.211oh.org/

technically legal for them to not fix it yet as long as they gave us a heat source. But the heater they gave us blows our fuse so it's literally useless, and I don't have a bunch of random stuff plugged in either, everything plugged in is essential for us. Not sure how legal that is, considering they did provide a heat source that does work, but it blows our fuse so we can't actually use it 😭

@FairyMother what is THAT that’s not gonna warm even one room???

@Patience its powerful when on but even on the lowest setting its blown our fuse. So now I'm only using the one my mom brought and it's old and takes a while to heat up and I've got it in the living room rn trying to warm it up so it'll be warmer when she wakes up to play and eat dinner. And it's started snowing now too, I'm like on the verge of tears cuz I'm just cold and they didn't fix it and the only solution they gave us just literally does not work because it'll just keep blowing the fuse after being on for 5min.

@FairyMother have you called them saying that?? It’s snowing it’s that cold? Girl I’d be blowing every phone up I could! Is there anyway y’all could stay somewhere for the night?

@Patience the office is closed now but I called them and told them he came at 4:52pm to drop that heater off and say he's not coming back until tomorrow morning. They have an emergency maintenance number I can call but they told me it's the same people who are working already and apparently they're all working on someone else's unit that doesn't have power

@FairyMother id still call the emergency number and tell them someone at least one of them needs to get their ass over here and fix this.

I called the emergency number and left a message. Idk if they'll actually get back to me tho

I told them that he's been over twice and disappeared for hours on a lunch break just to come back to drop off the heater and told them even on the lowest setting that heater is blowing the fuse and asked if anyone was able to come fix it tonight or at least mess with the space heater/fuse box so we can use that. I'm waiting for a call back 🥲

The same mf guy answered that I've been dealing with all day. He basically told me to turn off the lights or unplug everything and keep trying to use the space heater. He says a part has been ordered and should be there tomorrow so they can fix the actual heating. Literally so fucking frustrated. I put her down for a nap anyways and the heater is unplugged in her room but like wtf are we supposed to do? Just not use any lights and unplug literally everything but the fridge and pray that it won't blow the fuse?

We don’t have heat either 🙃 our heating and cooling has been broken for a couple weeks now. It works until you switch it from A/C to heat. Which we had to do today and it stopped working and no one is answering our calls either 😂 thankfully our house isn’t that cold though (70). We’ve just been using lots of blankets

@Sarah Do you rent and maintenance isn't responding or you can't get a hold of someone to hire? I'm sorry you're dealing with this too!

@FairyMother we rent as well! Maintenance isn’t responding as always. We have had lots of issues with our place as well 🙃 Same to you! I also live in the area so if they don’t get it fixed tomorrow please message me and I can bring you some socks/clothes for your little to stay warm 🫶🏼

@FairyMother ok so 100% on your side here BUT space heaters, even good ones, pull more power than just about everything in the universe. The trip breakers all the time, you really can’t run a bunch of other stuff at the same time, on the same circuit. Try using a less loaded breaker. Failing that, hang towels in front of your windows like ghetto curtains, bake something in the oven, lump everyone in ONE room for the body heat (if you can). Put blankets in the dryer before putting them on sleepy people, to get the coziness going

Once in darker days, I was sleeping in my car in winter and it hit 30 degrees and I couldn’t even run the car. I didn’t die but man, man is that cold. I feel for you and I’m sorry! Focus on making sure the baby is warm but safe-sleeping, even if that means holding her all night and 0 sleep for you

@FairyMother hey girl not totally related but def check out the local “It’s Free” page on fb. That’s where I got 100% of my sons clothes from premie to 4T I literally have 6 bins stored full cause he’s just started 3-6mo. Kids grow out of stuff so fast. You can pass on what your kid grows out of and get more of what you need when someone else kid grows out of it. Best thing is finding someone local with a kid 4-6 months older than yours. #unlimited handmedowns. Bonus points if their style matches yours 😂😂❤️

@Sarah thank you! Hopefully they'll return tomorrow morning with that part and get it fixed then 🙏🏻
