At what age did you start elf on a shelf for Christmas?

My LG is 2 and a half and I’m wanting to start little Christmas traditions, not sure if she’s still too little to understand?

Probably ridiculous but my baby is 7 months old and we are going to have our elf on the Christmas tree this year, he won’t do anything cause she’s to young to understand but we definitely need our elf 😂🙈

When she’s more aware maybe next year she will be 4 x

Never in my house, and I'm all for Christmas but I can't stand elf on the shelf.

Keen to avoid it as I hate that elf. My eldest is 4.5 and my youngest is 1.5.

I’m avoiding it! Had so many friends with older kids telling me not do start it if I don’t need to, and I’m fully taking that advice 😂

Never ever ever, can’t stand the stupid things 😂

I'm starting this year . She's almost 3 but it's because she points it out everywhere and her cousins have one. Although I'm not paying £20 for the original. I got the cheap knock off elf😂

We put the elf on the shelf when she was 2 and didn’t move it around, it just sat there which is what the original book actually shows. We started moving it a few times a week when she was 3 and now 5 years later we move it every night and do fun things. They love it and I love it.

We are doing it this year and my daughter is nearly 5 We aren’t doing any of the ‘naughty’ elf things. We are just having the elf leave fun activities to do after school etc

My advice would be that if you decide to do it, keep it super simple 🤣 otherwise it becomes a chore! My kids no longer believe but still want the elf 🤣🤣

That elf isn’t entering these premises 😂

I didn’t do it with my older child. But I’m doing it with my almost 4 yr old this yr. Not invested in him believing it’s real. Just think it will be fun. May do some funny things but nothing that my kids would get in trouble for.

I never had elf on the shelf in my childhood and my children won’t experience it in theirs. I’m not putting myself through that every year😂 There are other ways to count down to Christmas. “The elf does not operate in our postcode” I’ll explain to them!

At work I was in charge of this for one night a week. On week 2, after watching everyone else, I'd run out of ideas 🤣. Unless you're really creative, and can think of ten years worth of different scenes, don't start it. You can't even repeat them year after year. Not for me

One of my friends does this for her kids and when we were in lockdown she put the elf in a cage one night and told them he had Covid and had to isolate, best idea ever to get herself out of moving him for 10 nights 🤣
