Advice

My son is 8 months old he had a cold which has turned into bronchitis. I’m doing everything I can to help him but he’s refusing his milk, he’s drinking bits of water and eating his food when I told the community nurse she told me to push fluids and feeds as much as I can which I know anyway as I work in care but how am I going to get him to drink his bottles again because he’s waking up in the night (still refusing his milk though) because he’s hungry and then crying himself to sleep all day

Could he be teething in top of this? My little girl was like this with feeding about 2 weeks ago (didn’t have a cold nor bronchitis though) and I found the only way she would take a bottle was if I’d put teething gel all around the bottle teat! Maybe try and give this a go, I hope this helps mama xx

My little boy wasn’t taking any fluids when he had bronchitis and was lethargic and sleeping all day and barely had any wet nappies and ended up in hospital because of this! He was on a drip and the doctor said try to feed him little and often because when they have an infection on the lungs they find it harder to take fluids as it puts pressure on there lungs which makes it harder for them to breathe. So maybe try small amounts for a little bit and see if he takes it better like that? Does your little one have any of these symptoms? If so it might be worth ringing 111 for advice! Let me know if this helps! X

@Evie he’s not teething I keep checking but I might try this to see if it helps thankyou xx

@Ashleigh I have taken him up to out of hours gp and nurses check up on him everyday, the only symptoms he has is a very chesty cough, very wheezy and very sleepy… he’s been eating his meals and drinking water but every time I try him with his bottle he just refuses to have any of it even on days like today when I haven’t give him porridge he refused his milk and cried himself to sleep. All together today he’s had 5oz of formula, a adult yoghurt, spaghetti bolognese about 130g for his dinner with two biscotti biscuits after it, he drank 2oz of water and 200g of sweet and sour chicken for his tea with half a rusk and now he’s asleep just refusing any milk whatsoever x

So he’s eating plenty just not drinking enough! What did the doctors say about his feeding? I know you said they said to try and give him fluids but he’s not taking any of it! You can’t even say it’s because he’s gone off his milk because he’s still having some just not as much. He also still needs/wants it because he’s crying himself to sleep so he’s obviously not content enough! Maybe try the little and often and making try to include it into his food more when you can just so he’s getting more of it xx
