Thats the same here in Washington, so I would guess California is the same? But I agree, call your insurance to confirm:)
I had my first in CA and he was covered under my insurance for the first 30 days. He was in the NICU and I got a separate bill for him from the NICU stay, but that bill still automatically processed through my insurance.
I call ahead to let them know and fill out paperwork and then the insurance starts immediately after baby gets here. So no stress after baby gets here
I don’t know how it works in California, but here in Florida I was able to get free Medicaid Humana through the state for the Baby and myself. I signed up while I was pregnant and it helped cover my OB/GYN visits and then of course all the visits for Baby once she was born.
I’m in NY and I’ve been informed that I need to add the child to my insurance after birth (as soon as possible) and I can do that with a quick phone call. A birth certificate may be required later.
I’m not entirely sure how it works in California, but here, baby is under mom’s insurance for 30 days after birth. It gives you time to apply for insurance for baby or directly add them to an existing policy. I would just check with your insurance company to see how it works.
