Anyone remember the last time they could eat their evening meal in peace!?

Am I doing something wrong!? Every evening meal is so arduous now. One of us holding a fussing baby, swapping with the other when we can...can't watch a film or TV or anything!

How olds your little one? I would say in the newborn phase then I generally always ate whilst holding the baby asleep on me as he was most settled, now we try and eat during his wake windows and he will play in his bouncer. Films/tv only happens when he’s in bed (he’s 16weeks now)

Something like this. By the time I'm done cooking and washing the kids, it's almost time for the baby to sleep so he starts to get fussy and we have to eat quickly.

@Beth he's about 13 weeks. Sometimes he will play in a bouncer or playmat but by the evening it tends to end in tears quickly!

My baby is 12 weeks old and my husband and I rarely get to eat our meals in peace! We take it in turns to eat or find ourselves scoffing our food down!

It’s been well over two years, since my first was born 😅 & since my second arrived it’s even more chaotic. This is the season we’re in right now, dinners are rushed (on my part) & when my partner isn’t at work the baby gets passed between us while the other one eats.

So I was in the same situation until I started inforcing bedtime routine, at 12 weeks, she’s now 16 weeks and since 12 weeks its bath, bottle, read story and bed by 7pm which allows us to finally eat our evening meal in peace and it works a treat we use to argue most evenings because we were hungry but had a fussy baby who wanted rocking back and forth when I was trying to eat xx

We would take turns eating until we got our baby bouncer/swing. Now we position it next to the table and eat in front of our son and he’s happy to watch us. What time are you eating? Is it too close to his bedtime? I hope this gets better for you, this was one of the things I struggled with a few months ago

Can you try to eat during their nap or after you settle them for night sleep? Our little girl has last nap 4:30-5pm so we get to eat something small and then we settle her for night at 7pm so we have proper dinner then

@Tereza we try but settling...bath, bottle, bed etc can take a good while! By which time it's kinda too late to eat.

We had this with our son. He would have the witching hour anywhere between 5-7. We had a lot of meals where we ate separately, one of us had ir reheated. This baby isn't quite so bad with this, she can be fussy through dinner but usually has a feed straight after. We found from about 5 months, our son could sit quite well so we started putting him in the highchair with some toys. This kept him entertained enough that we could eat together again
