Does your little one eat non food items?

So my son has been chewing on everything wooden in the house.. our wooden table, our MDF tv cabinet, I got him loads of wooden toys.. he has chewed them too! He will eat tissue, cotton buds, hair, his books, string.. literally the list goes on! I recently done a post about him eating our MDF cabinet and being concerned because of the formaldehyde in it and the commenters are not concerned about that at all but said it’s totally not normal for him to be chewing on the cabinet and I need to take him to the Drs. Everything I see online says this can be normal behaviour up until their teeth fully come in (he only has 7) so I stopped worrying he might have Pica but now I’m thinking 🤔

My daughter is the same, she’s worse than a puppy for chewing everything, she’s chewed my wooden side table, my mums leather chair, her pram bar thing, her wooden and plastic toys, her books, her shoes, everything she holds it’s so draining getting everything out her mouth!!! 😅😅

@Anneliese okay I’m so glad I am not the only one and knew I wasn’t going mad because others on peanut are going on like they have never experienced this! At first I didn’t think it was normal but after some research I have seen some other people’s babies are doing the same. I was about to start worrying again with the responses from my other post telling me my son isn’t normal like he is the only toddler doing this but I’m really glad to hear yours is the same😮‍💨 thanks for responding!

@Shay yeah it’s so weird, I think it’s normal but I also have never seen another baby/toddler chew things to the extent my daughter does 🤣 I’m Hoping it’s just something she grows out of. I bought her a new book yesterday and she already chewed the corner off before we even got home 😩 absolute nightmare lol. I’ve read it’s normal developmentally until the ages 18-24 months and then it should die down 😅

@Anneliese yeah I keep reading the same thing, and I also haven’t met another toddler chew/eat things like mine either😐, and yeah I know the whole book thing, I got a bookcase for my sons books as he has soo many and I didn’t even think about him possibly eating them because he didn’t at the time (but then he was never left around them).. literally in the first few hrs of putting his books on the bookcase he has chewed, ripped and bent up everything! The board books are perfect for his chewing needs🤦🏽‍♀️. He is also a climber too so once I took all the books off his bookcase, he started climbing it all the way to the top so now it’s turned backwards against the wall! The worst part is that he doesn’t just chew these things, he fully eats the stuff he chews off too! I wanted to reduce the amount of plastic toys he has but him having wood is ideal for him to chew which I never thought would be a problem😭

Yep my daughter is the same it’s a nightmare isn’t it! Sometimes she spits it out but other times she swallows it as well I’m constantly getting crap out her mouth! Hopefully this phase won’t last much longer for them both 🤞

Yeah sometimes he will be good enough to hand me whatever he put in there but then other times he is so adamant he swallows it if he thinks I will take it🤦🏽‍♀️ it’s strange it’s only our two that’s doing this but hey I’m glad at least one other person knows what I’m on about because I don’t even know anymore lol. Yeah agreed hopefully it doesn’t last long for them both🤞🏽😖
