@Rhiannon typically they want winter coats or like makeup or teen stuff. There is always a list of wants. I seen food and a heated blanket on one.
@Zainab🗝️ if there is a list of wants, then that’s much easier! I like buying off a list. I’ve never been assigned a teenager. I have noticed that general toy drives (so not given a specific child to buy for) are usually filled with stuff for smaller children so I don’t think it’s just your imagination.
@Rhiannon yeah, I've always seen them with lists. Never had to guess and it is usually pretty basic stuff because they understand their needs over wants, typically. I've definitely noticed that they get picked last and it's so sad.
Maybe because teens cost more? Like, the typical things they want cost more than hot wheels and barbie dolls. And since they're bigger, their clothes and shoes tend to cost more too. That's my theory, anyway. We sponsored a little boy this year from Angel wish list! He wanted video games and those definitely cost way more 😂! But we were asked to sponsor this kid in particular because my husband does that Big Buddies program through work and his little buddy happened to be on angel list this year, so obviously we were going to take him!!! A few years ago we had a teen girl and I actually really enjoyed it because I felt like I knew what she'd like 😂 (she didn't leave a list other than a few specific items)
I think I would personally get them programs to enlist for. Like a gift receipt to take football lessons, soccer, music, swimming, etc. I think more than anything, those kids just want a positive thing they like to be a part of. ... idk if all of that made sense in the way I explained.
I’ve seen a lot of people go and grab whatever was left on the trees (they were teen ages) and buy a lot of needs and wants and extras for them! One girl grabbed 14 and I think all were 4-16 years old and they bought all new coats and shoes and were planning to go back for toys etc
Have you specifically looked for programs for older children because where I am they have programs available for children 17 and under or even 18 and under
Teens I understand being last, what on earth do teenagers want?? I wouldn’t have a clue what to get. Young kids (boys or girls) are easier to buy for. Some gift programmes you’re given a name and told exactly what that child wants. I prefer that to guessing tbh 😅
