Until your dating scan, it’s dated from the first day of your last period. Sometimes they may take into account your cycle length too if you have irregular cycles. I ovulated on 08/11, but my first day of my period was 26/10 and this is the date they use. Had a private scan yesterday where I should have been 7 weeks based on this and baby was measuring 7 weeks exactly x
Pregnancy is counted from the first date of your last period, not plus two weeks and not date of ovulation. That is, until you have your dating scan at 12W where, based on measurements and such, your doctor will give you your official due date. Usually this is similar to the original date used using your period, but it can shift by a few days. For example, based on my last period our EDD was 5 Jan, then when we went for our dating scan it was changed to 2 Jan :)
Thank you all! Very helpful, I’m just getting confused wondering whether I am 6 weeks or 8 weeks: LMP - 16th October Ovulation - 2nd November x
You can use the NHS due date calculator. You put in the date of your last period and the average length of your cycles and it gives you an estimated due date. For example your first day of last period 16 Oct but your cycle length average might be 28 days.
Im the same my hospital have me down as further than i actually am they did the same with my first pregnancy so i had my first scan at 12 weeks but i was actually 9 weeks so i got another scan when i was actually 12 weeks so was nice to get to see baby again 🥰 I have irregular cycles so i ovulated later in my cycle Lmp - 14th October Ovulation - 18th November Im using my ovulation date to track through my pregnancy app
my last period was october 17th & i’m 7 weeks 2 days; my average cycle is around 30 days! it depends on each person tbh! you won’t really know unless you confirmed ovulation or have a scan x
When talking about weeks pregnant, it normally goes on gestational age. This is worked out from the first day of your last period and is normally based on a 28 day cycle. If you wanted to be more accurate you can amend the day based on how long your cycle is. To keep it simple until you have your first scan it’s easier just to count from the first day of you LMP. There are also calculators online you can use to work it out.
