Colouring

Every time I try to get my 18 month old to use crayons and color he always ends up having a tantrum Cuz he takes off with the crayon and tries to eat it and of course I stop him. He doesn’t sit still long enough to enjoy it. He does a few scribbles but that’s it. Is this normal for his age?

Yes. My daughter used to hate coloring and she would say “mama to do it”. Normal for toddlers to put everything in their mouths and normal for toddlers to get easily frustrated

@Victoria~ thank you! It’s just I know if I hadn’t of put it away it wouldn’t have been just a tantrum, I would’ve had to deal with a meltdown!

Just wait a bit. My son didn't start to enjoy colouring until after 2

It can be normal but just don’t give it to them. They don’t HAVE to color. If there’s tantrums and not listening then just don’t do it. Try again in a few months. My almost 3 year sometimes could care less so it really doesn’t matter.

Every child is different. I’ve been coloring with my son since he was around a year old. He really enjoys it. He still tries to eat them at 22 months so I got the two stable kind. He does better with those. He enjoys painting too I was told my son’s attention span is not age appropriate. It’s too short but if it’s something he’s really interested in, he will sit and focus on it.

My kids weren't into it at this age. Doesn't matter.
