One year old picking up on everything we say 🫣

So on 2 occasions when my one year old has been messing around (hitting etc) my husband told her to stop because she’s being “bad” I told him not to say that to her because she will think he’s calling her bad. We didn’t think she would remember the word but a few months went by and one day, I took something off her because she was messing around and she screamed “NOOOO BAD” Anyway, she keeps saying it and I want her to stop. I try & not give her attention when she says it but that doesn’t work and she’s only 1 so you can’t really explain. What do you in situations where they say things you don’t want them to repeat? lol

I'm kind of impressed she took the word bad and used it in a different context correctly. I would just explain why you took it.

I know!! When she first said it, I wanted to laugh because she’s smart haha but now it’s getting annoying

At 12 months my kid understood everything we said. They learn so fast! What worked best for us was explaining everything to her! Telling her that the thing was breakable or could hurt her was something she could understand. I also found that giving her a chance to be gentle and asking her to put something away properly often worked better than taking things from her.

Aw hehe at least she knows what it means I guess My little girl is terrible at copying me (thankfully she doesn't copy her dad too much especially when he games lol)

Hahaha I’m just so scared of slipping up by swearing etc and she copies it! Need to be soo careful now! Trust me, even if they aren’t saying the words, I swear they store everything we say in their brains and use them when they’re ready 😂
