Development

Hey! My little boy is now 18 months old and while his motor skills are great and he seems to understand what I’m doing/asking. He doesn’t say a single word anymore. He used to say ‘cat’ and ‘please’ and ‘up’ when he was around 14 months but seems to have regressed. I’ve tried countless times to encourage him but he doesn’t seem interested. He can mumble mama just about when he’s crying. He knows what he wants, pulls me to take me to the kitchen when he wants something to eat etc. He’s very independent and doesn’t really like affection. Should I be concerned?

My little boy is exactly the same he can say mama but he doesn’t say any other words. (He use to say about 4-5 but doesn’t say them anymore) I’ve been refered for speech therapy xxx

He’s also not affectionate will only cuddle on his terms (or when he’s sick) he’s a wild child just into everything all day long xx

How did you get referred, was it through the health visitor? Xx

Also you can private message me if you want to chat xxx

I would take him to the gp for peace of mind. they might refer him. Hopefully it will be something he will come out of and it’s just a phase xxx

Music/singing lots can really help with their talking as they sometimes try and sing along. Really helped my girl with her speech, like super simple songs and I would sing along with it to her and leave blanks to encourage her to join in and eventually she would sing along with it. Every baby is different though and it could just be a phase he’s going though 🤞

@Abbi yes at my 16 month review she referred my lb xx
