I started with just baby porridge in the mornings. After a couple weeks introduced a puree at dinner (1 or 2 ice cubes worth) I'd make my own veg and fruit ones and freeze them in ice cube trays. We started at 5 months and then introduced finger foods at 6 months.

Confused with the advice you’ve been given tbh… my little girl is 99th percentile and no one has mentioned weaning early… just shows milk is doing its job! In terms of first foods, with my son I was recommended to do a week of a single bitter veg per day. Purred with their milk (breast or formula) and then a cooked piece of the veg for them to play with. So brocolli, cauliflower, carrots etc… Then after that I started with a wider range of single foods - bread, egg, peanut butter etc to check for allergies
As the parent of a 91st centile baby I certainly won't be weaning early. Clearly shows milk is sustaining them. It's normal for them to get curious at this age and is one of the signs of readiness. Also normal to be hungrier as there's a bit of a growth spurt coming on!
Solid starts app is good too.
@Jen I’m the exact same as you, Infact when I mentioned weaning they said to wait till 6 months as he will only get bigger as it’s not a substitute but an addition!
Weaning comes down to individual babies. Some are ready early, others benefit from early weanining due to medical reasons. But ultimately, it's your choice. Having said that. It looks different to all. I weaned my son early due to reflux it's done wonders for him, and I chose a non-traditional route. Start with single veg pure very smooth,se how he reacts. You can do a week of single veg or introduce a new one every 3 days. As he is young, don't expect him to be able to do BLW. Test allergens as soon as he is ready, especially nuts early (multiple research studies show huge benefitsto that). You can get nut milk and make porridge with it. Ultimately, take your time and monitor his response to weaning. My LG is 4 months now, and I am planning to start next month as she is showing signs.
We started at 4 months cus we had a very hungry baby. We just started with baby rice at first to not overwhelm him, then started adding some flavours from Ella's kitchen fruit pouches as he got used to the rice. Then the more baby rice he was having the more experimental we got with porridge and thicker fruit.
@Jen @Charley Thank you for your help - I have spoken to another HV on the team and she said I've been misinformed and to wait until 6 months unless a GP/consultant advises! 🙆♀️
Thank you for all of your help ladies! Will make notes for when the time is right 😊
It's scary isn't it that we can't even rely on health professionals to give us correct advice! Glad you posted on here and got a second opinion otherwise you'd have followed her bad advice x
@Hollie Absolutely! Lesson learned to not take one persons word for gospel! X
I have 6 kids my eldest is 23 back then weaning was 4 months my youngest is 4 months he is being weaned now he has baby rice and Ella's pouches we only do the 5pm dinners at min then we will integrate breakfast you know your child my son was 8lb 14 at birth and as with yours he's very intrested when others eat your get people saying oh you must not do it before 6 months blah blah but ultimately you know your baby good luck x
The Ella’s kitchen first foods one is fab. It’s has 2 week chart of ‘first foods’ and then great recipes for purées, chunkier foods and BLW I also really likes the What mummy makes book too but that’s for when they are slightly older and eating fairly well
