My boy had his 2 year review just before he was 2 and was barely saying any words, they weren't concerned at all and gave us a few tips to help and then about a month later they just started coming and he learns new ones everyday. He's 2 years 2 months now and has gone from like 10 words to probably a hundred in a month and tries to copy when we say words. He's definitely and early walker late talker.

My son turned 1 in June and he says, mama, Dada, beep, no, go, mine, meme, oh-no, uh-oh, please, shh, two, three, bye, hi, idk if this helps any lol

My oldest, not until about 3. He could say a handful. That was it. Then around 3y4m he just exploded and hasn't shut since 😅 My youngest, started talking at 1, he is 2y6m now and he speaks in full sentences. The difference is crazy

They don’t tend to worry about it until age 3 however at the two year check mention it and see about getting a hearing test done if still concerned.

3 and still waiting for more than just a few words. Although he is on the waiting list for an autism diagnosis.

@Elsa all kids are different. All my kids didn't talk 3-4 years. They are fine. They will talk when they want to. A county worker is basing it off of highly advanced kids. They think they can push them to talk or walk or crawl.

@Lindsey most will but if there is an underlying issue like autism it is good for it to be identified as soon as possible for help to be provided. Here in the UK 50 words is the threshold for referrals. It is definitely not what highly advanced kids do. I would say my son was pretty average with his 200.

So last Christmas he was 2 year 4 month only saying about 4 words although joining together sometimes. Mostly just pointing. Sent him to nursery In Feb and all the words started pouring out after couple months. He's now 3.4months and he never stops talking haha. Knows the whole alphabet too. So try not to worry. Xx

Our Dr wasn't worried at 2yo with my son not talking other than babbling. At 2.5 they suggested being evaluated since it hadn't changed. He started speech therapy then and making improvements now at 3yo

My sons 2.5 he says lots of single words, like hi, bye, juice, hungry, he doesn't call me mummy but calls me mum mum or mama. He can say his abcs and count to 20 and also says colours, the health visitor wasn't worried at the 2 year review but he's been reffered to SALT by his nursery, he's had a hearing test and there's nothing wrong with that, so now we're just on the waiting list but since starting nursery his speech has improved but not that much he still mostly babbles. Hes been walking since 10 months old so he's definitely a early walker late talker

I know every child is different and after my second son I didn’t go by milestones because my oldest wasn’t talking until 2 2 1/2 with speech and my son after him was talking at like 11 or 12 months and he talks a lot and my youngest is saying a few words at 2 and 4 months and he can talk but choose not too and has speech because doctors feel as tho he should be talking even tho he do lol he just don’t want to talk we be having conversations

@Elsa I do know that info thanks since I have a kid with autism and I know how great it is for help during the beginning stages. I'm saying not every single child needs that extra push since they will talk when they are ready. I have 5 kids. Every kid I had talked at age 3-4 years old and don't have any underlying issues. My one kid is 3 and he is in the process of being tested for autism and shows signs of it which he is getting the help early so he can learn multiple things because there's more to it than talking. All because someone's kid is 2 doesn't mean they will talk at that age. All kids are different. This isn't my first ball game with knowing about getting help for the kids

My daughter didn’t start talking until almost 3. She was saying mama and dada around the typical 1 year age but not really interested in communicating beyond that until about 3. My son is 2 and 3 months and was saying dada and mama around the typical age 1ish. Now he just babbles but I’m not concerned.

Thank you everyone. So my son is saying words just not sentences together can say bye, animal noises, can say ready, steady Go when asked, waves when asked and can follow instructions so hearing is not an issue. No signs of autism he has had 2 year review and they are not concerned. He started walking at 14 months. Starting nursery in Jan and I know this will help xx

By 15mths she had 200+ words, now? Over 1200. I will say though that while she is strong in language I see kids younger than her like run all over playgrounds and go by themselves down the slide and she just...hasn't. She can climb but like...she won't go down the slide without you holding her hand or she'll flat out just refuse to go down the slide. So i feel like kids who are less developed in language are more developed in their physical skills. At least that's the case with her friends.
