Baby weight and weaning

I'm a little stressed. I've been referred to OLIVE for my little girl as she has gone up two centiles since birth. The health visitor suggested I am overfeeding her, but she is EBF, and the Midwife said you cannot overfeeding a breast fed baby. For reference she feeds every 3-4hours. She was 7lbs 1oz when she was born and is just over 18lbs now. Just been made to feel like a rubbish parent, with suggestions of childhood obesity etc. She is in the right size clothes for her age. Just feel like I'm doing something wrong. Also with weaning l, I have started puree and fingers food combined but little one just doesn't really seem interested in food. She watches us when we eat and mimics chewing etc. How long do you let them play with finger foods? I just feel really out of my depth. I've been giving her vegetables to start, so have tried a teaspoon of courgette, carrot broccoli, sweet potato etc Do I keep trying or leave it another few weeks before trying again.

I would say she sounds perfect happy and healthy! Just the foods aren’t going to be her main source of nutrition. So don’t worry that she’s just messing and playing. It’s all about taste and texture so far. I wouldn’t worry about all that, as long as she’s still having her regular milk feeds it should be fine 🤍 I haven’t started weaning yet as poor lil gal can’t sit up 😂 so I could totally be wrong 😂

My friend had this with her son, he was EBF and though born on 50th shot up to 99th centile. As soon as he started crawling the weight all fell back off again. Apparently it's really common for them to bulk up around 6 months in anticipation of all the motor development they're gonna be doing.

She sounds perfectly healthy. Health visitors often say really stupid things in my experience. I think it’s up to you if you keep offering the food and she can play with it without any pressure to eat or wait a few weeks.

She sounds like she’s doing amazingly well! Lots of babies don’t stay on the same centile they were born on. Breastfed babies also tend to pack on the pounds quickly. Mine is going into 9-12 months already. I know once she starts crawling and walking that she’ll slim out again just like her sister did. Keep going with the weaning. It’s a new skill that takes a while for some of them to learn. Mine is gagging on everything!
