Starting nursery- hunger strike

My little one has only had a couple of days at nursery so far and he starts doing 3 full days a week in the new year. He’s been tearful which I was expecting and the staff have reassured me is totally normal. But when he’s there he refuses to eat or drink anything. Today from 8:30-3:30 they managed to get him to drink an 1oz of expressed milk and that’s it. The time before that he didn’t have anything at all the whole time he was there 9:30-3:00. Did anyone else have this problem?! It worries me so much that he’s going all day with barely anything to eat or drink 😭😭😭

Yes I had the same with my little boy! He was on hunger strike at nursery for a good month (he goes 2 days a week) but thankfully would drink 2 bottles whilst there. They said it was normal and food is usually the last thing to come when they settle! It will get better ☺️ xx

@Naomi Thank you for your reply. It’s reassuring to hear we aren’t alone! I wish he’d take some milk, I think even if it was just milk I’d feel a lot more at ease than I do now- especially not knowing quite how long he’ll keep it up for! 🥲

Yes I had the same with my son last month and my daughter years ago. Not nice to hear but v normal. Someone explained it well to me, that it’s the only thing they can control in a new setting so that’s often why it happens 🤷🏼‍♀️. My son refused to eat anything for about 2 weeks. Now he eats all of most of the meals. He will get there, just not nice when you’re in it xxx

@Hannah Thank you for sharing! You’re absolutely right, and it does make total sense as to why it’s happening. I hope it’s only a matter of weeks for us before he at least feels settled enough to attempt any meals or snacks!
