Just being a baby or autistic😭

So every day on social media I see videos of ‘how I knew my child was autistic’ and it terrifies me my 6 month old ‘flaps’ his hands When laid on back kicks legs like he’s swimming Doesn’t yet respond to his name, when should he do this by? But he does turn around to look if people are talking if I’m drying my hair or hoovering he looks ‘Twirling his feet’ but he has always flexed his feet from birth moving his toes etc He’s started ‘crawling’ backwards and spinning on his belly to turn around He’s reached every milestone so far I’m terrified

I went throught this exact same thing i deleted TikTok. If there were/are any signs your health visitor shoudl be anle to pick this up. The name- my now 22 month old only listens to his name now 😂 before you could call him a million times but because he was so focused on everything else he didnt care. Call your local health visiting team if you have really bad concerns

My son was running around with his kid knife earlier and regularly spins in circles licking me and talking in tongues lol, TikTok would have me believe I need an exorcism when in reality he’s just 2. Your child is just being a typical 6mo! My advice is ignore it all! He wont do anything of note for a while and won’t properly respond to his name for a while yet. Delete the apps they are toxic!

Diagnostic criteria for autism is very unreliable until around 4years old, because a lot of typically 'autistic' behaviours are also typical toddler behaviours. Nothing you've described sounds out of the ordinary for 6mo in my opinion. I think if the hand flapping and lack of response to name continues as he grows up, the health visitor will pick it up during the 2.5yr review (a long way off for you!) or you could raise it as a concern with them or the GP, but I wouldn't worry before then if I were you. 🤍

Just baby behaviour at this age x

For a 6 month old seems perfectly normal to have feet in the air, twirling and playing, mine did and was besotted by feet, guess it's sensory play. My baby is only 19 months old now and responds to his name when it perfectly pleases him. I don't watch these videos at all, they randomly crop up on YouTube/FB and I just completely ignore them, skip past it, as they provoke fear to already nervous parents. Just see your baby as being normal and doing everything that most 6months old do and crawling for that age is brilliant!. If your worried go to the GP or like suggested health visitor for professional advice.

Even If ur kid does turn out autistic no need to be terrified it's just a different way they experience and see the world it's not a terminal illness. Terrified is a bit rude. I've got to autistic little sister and there both perfectly fine, good, nice people, not exactly terrifying n horrendous

Nothing you have described is diagnostic criteria for autism. It all sounds like usual infant behaviour. Speaking as an autistic person, being terrified that your child might have autism is also a little offensive towards autistic people, FYI.

My son is 8 months old and does most of this… don’t listen to everything you read online
