Hiya! I would say anytime is okay when giving formula, depends if you have preference. In terms of prepping - follow the NHS guide which is boil a fresh water then leave for 30 minutes. Otherwise, you can also do the hotshot method. Also, you can do a batch of pre made then store them in the fridge but must be taken within 24 hours - I guess you can do this once baby takes more than 1 bottle of formula. 😊 I know you’ve said little one only takes 40ml at the minute. I would say maybe look into putting extra in the next weeks or observe if the little one is still wanting to drink more so that you can prepare extra as your baby adjusts! Are you looking to keep breastfeeding? If so, would suggest pumping when little one takes a bottle of formula just because your body will adjust to that change too meaning supply might decrease. LO is EFF and at 5m was having 150ml. Almost 6m now and having 180ml
I would give the formula bottle as the last feed of the day before bed. This will help you see how much they’ve had to drink with aims for a nice long stretch of sleep plus means in future you can ask someone else to do that bottle feed, if you want to do some well deserved evening plans. I’ve been doing it this way for the past month or so and it’s been working well. My (otherwise EBF) 4 month old baby has a formula bottle at around 7pm for 7.30 bedtime, drinks about 6/7oz
I should add it took me about 2 months to get her to take 6oz from the bottle - before she would only have a very small amount (took her a while to get used to it)
@Adele may i ask if you pump at all during the formula feed?
I used to! But now we have a routine established I am comfortable to stop pumping for this feed and it to continue as a formula feed. If you pump for it you’ll always produce more milk during that time. I only pump at night if I’m physically uncomfortable because she’s sleeping through
