Crying/Tugging At Nipple Half Way Into A Feed....

My LO is 5weeks and is breastfed and has expressed bottles. Until 3 days ago, breastfeeding was going well. Now after around 5 or 6 minutes of good latching, LO starts to pull at my nipple and tug it from side to side then let's go, cries at my boob, latches again for seconds and then tugs/cries at it again. He does this over and over again even if i swap sides. It's like he doesn't think its a boob. And when he does latch for the few seconds, he comes off and sounds like he is drowning. Any advice? (I've tried burping, offering the other side, calming down before putting him back on)

I’ve had the same issue and my LO is the same age. I’ve googled it and responses are things like fast letdown, gas, etc I don’t know what it could be 😭

Could be stimulating flow/supply? https://www.instagram.com/p/Cuhxv2_NGpC/?igsh=MWNpZzJvcXV1M2tncA== maybe a growth spurt coming (usually one around 6-8 weeks)

My 4 week old does this too, started about a week ago. For us we discovered it was due to a fast letdown that she finds overwhelming. As well as pulling off and tugging the nipple we also had occasional chocking and clicking sounds when feeding, and then if I hand express the milk sprays out rather than dripping out.

I had this and was due to fast let down. I use to hand express for a few minutes before breastfeeding or keep taking her off sitting her up and then putting her back. I would have to do this a few times. Also reclining more can help a bit with gravity not letting it flow so fast. It still happens sometimes now but my little one is getting more use to it.

Thank you all. The fast let down sounds like it could be the problem. I'll give it a Google and see what I can try to help him. I don't want to give up on BF but I can't go through that every feed and jts put me off going out because I don't know how I'll feed him.

Haaka for 5 mins before a feed sorted this for me

@Emily whats haaka?

@Kiran https://amzn.eu/d/3OEjCPH milk collector with a tiny bit of suction

@Rebekah the milk spraying out is normal, it’s nothing to do with a fast letdown, it’s supposed to do that

I have this it's fast let down now my babas got used to the fast let down but now gets fretty when the let down slows because she's impatient
