Change in behaviour since starting school?

Has anybody else’s children been showing different behaviours since starting school a few weeks back? My son (4years) seems like a different child. He won’t engage with his classmates, says no to every activity offered including out of school activities like football on a Saturday and is so naughty at home too. Feeling so confused because he’s never been like this before! Anybody else or any tips? Xx

Yes, mine only started last week, and have had all of that. Anxiety is huge too, and he's repeating things over and over and has developed random fears (rain being the newest one!) xx

I feel the same my 4 year old son says no to everything now and never used to. He has definitely changed I thought school was meant to help him. I’m not sure if it is other children’s attitudes rubbing off on him if that makes sense. Xxx

My son is like this as well 🥲🙋🏻‍♀️ I was just told that it’s because he is adjusting to a new routine and new settings 😅 not quite sure if that’s what it is.. but fingers crosssd he snaps out of it once he gets used to it 😂 I’d love tips too

I’ve seen a lot of changes in my son, lot of good he seems to have grown up a lot, talking better and listening more. BUT he is out of control cheeky, back chatting and whining. I guess it’s part of the readjustment

My daughter has become so much more grown up. She wants to help me more, she has changed words that she uses eg, she uses to call me mam and now it's mum. She has become a lot more argumentative which I am trying to deal with as when I tell her that she doesn't speak to mammy like that she gets very upset. There is a lot going on for them at the moment and I suppose it takes a while for them to make sense of their new starts and find who they are in their new dynamic

My little boy is simply exhausted! He falls asleep eating dinner so we've gone back to me spoon feeding him.

@Georgia this!!!! I’m so glad I read this comment, I’m not saying misery loves company but I honestly felt like it was just my son being exactly like this. So cheeky, unbelievable back chat and the whining is insane!!! Hopefully they adjust swiftly x

I thought I was the only one! It’s been tantrums galore at the minute 🥺

My 4yo is going through a similar stage to what my now-7yo did - basically he is using up so much energy behaving well and learning at school that he's acting out a bit at home because it's a safe space. We are trying to be really patient w him and give him lots of extra love and attention. Our older one eventually got accustomed to the school routine, and I'm sure the 4yo will as well!

So glad to see a post like this because we’ve been struggling with our 4YO daughter too with her behaviour. Her attitude at home since starting her new school has completely changed. She’s telling us she hates us, saying no to everything, physically aggressive towards my husband (her dad) and is generally not listening and playing up every single day. Been at my wits end with it all x

Our reception teacher told us back in July that this term would be a rollercoaster. She said some kids will just come home and sleep, others will have lots of worries etc. we’ve developed at stroppy 14 year old but it is getting a little better each week

Thanks everyone - it weirdly feels good to know its not just us!! Fingers crossed our little ones adjust soon ❤️❤️

@CeeCee haha pleased to help. He’s been better last few days, he ran to school this morning happy to go back after the weekend. He drives me mental but then I get an update on his tapestry about how Lovely and kind he is being with his new friends and all is forgiven 😀🤣🥰

My twins are 4 and I’ve noticed a big change in them since starting school! 🥺 repeating themselves and they’ve gotten so cheeky. A few mums at the school have said the same too! X
