Pre op questions

Hey ladies, I’m having my pre op appointment tomorrow. I did have an emergency C section with my first. There wasn’t any time to ask questions before hand. But, tomorrow I get to have a conversation about the surgery. I’m just not sure what I should ask? Any suggestions? I know that sounds silly, but my first they had out within 10 mins of calling it. It was late and once I had my baby, I didn’t care about anything else.

Maybe ask if you can add in some of your preferences? Like music in the background How soon you can get skin to skin Who is going to cut the cord and when

So the pre op is where you will get your arrival instructions, be told when to start fasting, and you’ll have time to answer any questions and calm nerves. They will take your last urine and blood samples, do theatre swabs near your groin and give you omeprazole to take the night before to reduce stomach acid.

I don't think I had a formal pre-op call. OB said scrub the area for the C section, choose a play list, don't eat after midnight (my scheduled c was for 10am) and... That was basically it....

You could ask what differences you can expect from the emergency vs the planned and how other patients may have described the difference , you can ask how they plan to close the incision (sutures, glue, staples?), is there anything you could pick up from the store to make recovery easier (a step stool, easy to eat food, etc) and who to contact post surgery if you have questions at that time
