I would say though, they won’t put you under GA unless there is an emergency reason. GA comes with risks to you and baby and you would have to be alone, the spinal block is preferred and tbh wears off a lot faster so you’ll be up and walking in no time with baby xx
Iv not had one but am a nurse and was in the room with a woman as her support when she was having one, the doctors were just about to lift baby and she asked me if they started yet. They will make sure you have no pain during the surgery, you may feel pressure and tugging but the anaesthesiologist will be there the whole time keeping an eye on your meds to make sure you are not in pain. As someone whos been in a similar position regarding losing a child at birth then having your rainbow, every concern you have melts away the second you hear that little cry ❤️ (be warned the cry isnt instant, i panicked after a few seconds of not hearing it, but apparently its normal for most babies to need some stimulation first)
@Lauren this was me too! I wasn’t told they even started, I was just talking with the anaesthetist and then I heard “get ready, here comes baby!”
You really don't know you're being cut open, honestly feels like you're on a hammock with someone rocking/jiggling you by your tummy/hips instead of holding the hammock. I really didn't want a section but had breech twins, it was honestly so calm and organised and helped plan childcare for my first. I'd still have preferred a natural birth but all things considered it was not bad at all considering how scared I was.
I had an elective section in May. It was the BEST experience of our lives. Cannot even compare to anything it’s just so surreal. Of course I was nervous going into it. I think I was more nervous of having to be put to sleep at any point. I didn’t even know they had cut me open. To be honest I had to ask my partner was I naked from my waist down before hand because I couldn’t even feel that🤣 The only part I felt was actually pulling the baby out. She was out within 15 minutes of entering the theatre - they do the spinal in theatre as well so it’s really quick. The doctors were amazing, just casually chatting and joking around. The radio was on in the background and it took about 20/30 minutes to stitch me back up. It really was magical and I’d do it 100 times over. I was last on the list and baby was born at 3:08pm but was in from 9:30am. The day went really quick even though you’re just waiting around. Good luck!
thank you all, i have another 10 weeks to go; but feeling sick with worry about the whole c section!
I’m having baby 2 via elective in December. Happy to answer any questions 😊 I had the most happy and calm experience despite being a cat 3 “emergency”. I walked in in my Nikes, had the radio on, camera rolling, skin to skin, delayed cord clamping and dad was involved with cuddles and cord cutting. Happens so fast and time flies, does not hurt at all even the spinal xxx
