Same here, my baby's estimated weight has dropped over 30 percentiles so they're concerned the placenta isn't working as well as it should. I'm being induced this weekend at 37+6 which I'm not over the moon about but I don't want to risk anything going wrong with my baby so felt I had to go with the induction. At least it means I will meet her sooner x
Do your own research (outside of the NHS). Also check the NICE and WHO guidelines as sometimes inductions are recommended even though it goes against guidelines. Firstly growth scans can be around 15% inaccurate and more so towards the end. (They even state this on your scan notes). Secondly - putting the growth ‘drop’ aside were there any other concerns such as amniotic fluid levels or cord blood flow? If not then what is the actual reason for an induction? Thirdly, an induction doesn’t always work and can take days during which you put yourself and the baby under stress (which makes no sense if there are concerns about baby’s health). Did anyone explain the cons of an induction to you? You have to know the pros and cons to make an informed decision and that means seeking information outside of the NHS unfortunately. Some reliable (non-bias) resources are Birth Ed, Sara Wickham and Rachel Reed. They are very evidence focused rather than just what is the norm ☺️
when i was born (ok 30 years ago but still) they hounded my mum to have an induction saying there was size/weight concerns as i was measuring small. my mum refused and i came naturally at a perfectly normal weight. from reading posts on here, it sounds like a lot of ladies who have already had kids have said similar things. so yeah, i’d just do your own research, no pressure and do what you think is right for you xxx
PS I have been in a similar scenario being told the placenta could fail only to be told in a follow up scan that the previous scan appeared to be inaccurate and my placenta is doing a great job of supplying my baby…. Luckily I was already well informed but I still had that moment of fear because we want to keep our baby’s safe and well x
I was induced with my first due to her growth dropping off and had no issues with her she was a healthy baby and I’m being induced on Tuesday with my second for the same reason I’ll be 38+2 definitely ask the questions of pros and cons but do whatever feels right for you good luck ☺️ xx
I was induced a week ago and i had a brilliant birth experience. Started the induction around 5pm, contracted through the night, waters went at 4cm at 9am, moved up to delivery, and baby boy was born 9.28pm❤️ I had an epidural after my waters burst and I slept through most of the labour afterwards, my midwives were brilliant, couldn’t have asked for a better birth❤️
My midwife told me today to do everyone possible to avoid induction because of the how horrid the process can be….!!! I did have an inkling on this based on things I’ve read and heard from friends etc but to hear a midwife say it, solidified that for me. Although, some do have really positive experiences!
I would personally request a rescan/second opinion before making a decision
