I’m 10 days post my 3rd c section. Week 2 is when I feel most “normal” prunes,lots of water & stay on top of your lactulose even when you think the constipation is over just keep going (it’s more than likely not) mine lasted about a month post birth! Everything you’re feeling is normal your body has been through so much trauma next week will be a better week. Be kind to yourself 🫶🏻

@Georgia thank you 😭 they didn’t give me any lactulose at all! ❤️

Fybogel is also really good for helping keep you regular, and drink as much water as you can. Lots of nipple cream will help if your nipples are sore/cracked and I’ve also heard that silver cups are good so I have ordered some of those but haven’t tried them yet. Hope you are feeling better soon ❤️

What pain relief have you been given? I had codeine which apparently makes the constipation worse but I was also given lactulose too - maybe see if you can get some to help? I'm now on day 8 and everything seems to be back to normal that end. Keep drinking plenty of fluids too. Hope you feel better soon xxx

i’m 3 weeks post c-section and feel back to normal! i promise it gets way easier❤️ keep on top of pain killers i didn’t stop them until day 7 🙏

@Mil Call your GP they can prescribe or you may even be able to buy it behind the counter at a pharmacy! It really makes a difference x

Lactulose is otc. Sending positive thoughts 🩷

Have you checked your wound for any infection or redness? I took arnica tablets to reduce bruising and also drank loads of prune juice which really helped with the bowels! Hope you start to feel better soon

@Rosie thank you ❤️

@Ellie I was given ibuprofen & tramadol. They told me I can’t take codeine as I’m breast feeding. Can’t wait to feel better 😭❤️

@Harriet not yet as I’m only day 4 at the moment, I will check on day 7 and fingers crossed it’s okay 🤞🏼🤞🏼

@Mil I call this the newborn trenches! That’s where you’re at right now. I also had a c section and went through recovery all alone with baby girl. Baby girl had reflux, colic and was premie (4lbs) and it was so nerve wracking having all of this at home alone when recovering and in pain. There wasn’t a day and night I didn’t cry. I thought it would never end or get better. I just want to tell you that it most definitely does but unfortunately it takes a little while. It was about 4 weeks until my section was a little less painful and full recovery 2 months maybe. Take lots of painkillers, keep on top of them. I had lots of laxatives too, took them when I took my pain meds. Rest and patience are your best friends right now. Lean on loved ones for support if you have them around ❤️ In regards to breastfeeding…don’t give up if you can. I was in so much pain too and now it’s the best and easiest thing. Get some silver nipple shields and pop them in the fridge. And lansinoh nipple cream

You've already got some great advice... I also took senna to help with constipation which worked for me after a few days. Also if you are still in quite a lot of pain I'd contact your midwife/ GP for advice and see if you can have some dihydrocodeine (different from codeine, is ok to take while bfing) or something to help control your pain better. It's not best if you are in a lot of pain and not very mobile as that's not going to help with your constipation either or your mood. My experience was that the pain etc resolved mostly after a week so hopefully you don't have to suffer for much longer. All the best!

@Dreia thank you for this, I just needed to hear that it does get better. I’m sorry you struggled as well ❤️

I’m on day seven and only just started to feel more normal, And couldn’t use the toilet till day 6 apricots helped me drink loads of water and try and take ibuprofen in between your meds hope you feel better soon x

I'm 17 days post c-section and I feel fine now apart from some slight pain when I sit up or move position. I would say I took painkillers back to back religiously for 7-9 days and then started feeling better and stopped needing to take them. As for the constipation, I took lactulose and dulcoease both 3 times a day from the day after my c-section and my first bm was uncomfortable but not as bad as I thought it would be. I'd say the stool softeners and drinking tonnes of water really helped me the most.
