Birth story (it’s not a good one so don’t read if you’re still pregnant)

I went to my 38 midwife appointment, I mentioned I had reduced movements so she sent me to the hospital where they advised I should be induced. I stupidly agreed just wanting to meet my baby. They tried putting the balloon in which failed and caused me excruciating pain. Because that midwife couldn’t do it, she asked another one to try who also failed. They then got a doctor to do it who was so rough I had to use gas & air and it still wouldn’t go in so they used the pessary. The pessary immediately caused back to back contractions so they gave me pethidine that made me projectile vomit. After 8 hours I asked them to take the pessary out as the contractions were so bad which they did and checked me and I was only 1cm dilated. About 8 hours after them taking it out my waters broke on their own. Unfortunately they had no room on the labour ward so I was kept waiting there for another 24 hours until I went to the labour ward and they started me on the oxytocin drip where they left me for another 6 hours to check if I was dilated and I was still 1cm. At this point as my waters had gone 30 hours ago I was showing signs of an infection and baby heart rate was going right up. I asked for the epidural as the contractions were agony and they then basically left me for about her 12 hours until i demanded a c section as I was so unwell and wasn’t able to wait until 10cm to push. They left me waiting hours again as a doctor didn’t do the correct bloods so needed to do them again and wait for the results if I had sepsis. Eventually they agreed to c section and I had her. They then kept us both in for 2 nights as we both had infections so in total spent 6 traumatic nights there. 😥 but I’ve got my baby girl and that’s all that matters 💓

Im so sorry. This story is all too common. Dont forget to make complaints when you feel more healed. You deserve way better. Gorgeous baby girl congratulations xx

@Mathilda thank you ❤️

@Mil that sounds so traumatic! i definitely agree with Mathilda and make complaints. that was such an unnecessary experience for you to go through. just glad your little girl is out, you're both now healthy and out of that hospital! X

@Stacie ❤️❤️❤️

Omg I'm so happy you have her. Which hospital was this if you don't mind me asking as I live in Yorkshire now. So worried if it's the same hospital xx

I think you also mentioned you had really high blood pressure at one point, so although this is a very tough journey you went through, I don’t think you need to blame yourself for “stupidly agreeing”, I think med team looked at your chart and saw few reasons why you should be offered it and gave you this as an option. Maybe it would’ve been the same journey should you have waited a bit longer or maybe your health or your baby’s health would’ve drastically changed in the later weeks.. whatever’s done is done type of thing and I think you beautifully advocated yourself amidst this cannot even imagine amount of stress and physical distress. 👏🏼 wishing you both speedy recovery!

I had a pessary induction and had back to back contractions for 6 hours, but luckily, my labour progressed a lot faster, and I had him vaginally. The only downside was that my contractions were so violent that I was pushing too hard and had a very bad tear. It's still not healed very well now, and it's nearly been 6 years. Congratulations on your little girl though, I feel for you that you had a horrible time of it xx

@Laura this was York hospital, i spoke to a lot of women in there though and they had good births so please don’t worry if it is xxx

@Polina thank you ❤️

So sorry to hear that!! Such poor competency, l hope you complained. Things can’t go on like that…

So sorry to hear this, glad yourself and baby are well and safe ❤️.

So glad you and baby are healthy, it sounds absolutely horrific 😢 be kind to yourself and let your body rest. Congratulations she’s beautiful ❤️xx

I’m so sorry and I’m glad you and baby are doing okay now!! I can honestly say that this was my worst fear. I have no faith in the NHS or the hospital I gave birth in, that I opted for a planned c section as I was so scared of something going wrong and needing an emergency one and I would do it again in a heartbeat. The hospitals are so understaffed I was so terrified and I just wanted my baby out safe. I hope you have a quick and easy recovery 🤞🏻 x

I am seriously so sorry that this nightmare happened to you. How are you and baby girl recovering from the infection??

CONGRATULATIONS 🥳 she is absolutely beautiful 😍 I’m so sorry this was your experience and I’m so happy you’re recovering from it as much as possible. The waiting time and lack of rooms is horrendous 😡 Not listening to you and making you wait sounds illegal! My story is quite similar to yours and I ended up complaining formally both to the hospital and the Nursing and Midwifery council. It’s quite a long process but I just couldn’t let it slide how I was treated.

Aww her lil face, she's lovely and her blanket is beautiful, Congratulations 🎊. Sorry to hear you had a traumatic experience. I didn't know they would keep you this long if there is an urgency to deliver baby safely, gosh after all of that ordeal you had to insist on a c-section to get it finally. Glad you're both well x

Im glad tour baby is well and with you. I had a sort of similar story to yours however I only let them do all these nonsense for 3 days. The balloon also failed even though was in...then the passery was only causing contractions but never enough to dilate, they wanted to insert another one which I strongly reffused. At that point the baby movements changed as well as the heart rate , I demanded a c section knowing the causes for foetal stress (I am a practitioner myself) and saw myself challenging every single doctor and midwife at 2am knowing something was wrong. I argued my way into a C section and I was right, baby had meconium (poo) and was in stress, also the surgeon informed me I was never in labour, she was so high up that even during a c section they had to use forceps. Story ended well but I know someone with similar story without a happy ending. I am still to write a formal complaint! You should do the same....the eay they treat pregnant women is appalling and needs changing!Ladies trust your guts

Your story = medical abuse.

I’m so sorry you went through this. Wishing you and your daughter well. xxx

I’m so sorry, sending you all the healing and fast recovery vibes❤️ she is perfect!!

https://www.birthtraumaassociation.org/ Definitely complain sweet! I was "locked in syndrome" for my birth in 2022 and the whole unit had no idea what to do as they had never seen it before. I complained and have managed to make changes in the department. For support visit...https://www.birthtraumaassociation.org/ it doesn't make it any easier as it was not the birth you wanted or deserved so be kind to yourself! She is beautiful x

@Alexandra were okay now thank you I’m still on 2 lots of oral anti biotics but baby is fine ❤️

@Sonia sounds very similar to me, my baby had also poo’d in me as well which they did pick up in my waters. It was all just a shambles 😥
