Home Birth first baby

What are peoples thoughts or experiences of a home birth for first pregnancy? Currently a low risk pregnancy and thinking about options. Thanks

All respect for people that birth at home, it must be a lovely experience 😊 my only concern would be that until you have given birth, you don't actually know what kind of labour and birth your body will give you. Plus, typically your first is the most difficult and unpredictable. If I'd had a complication-free first I would be keen on a home birth for 2nd onwards as I've known so many people have quick easy 2nd births after long (but essentially uncomplicated) first births. In fact I think if you look at the stats, they show that it is fairly safe in these situations, much safer than for first births.

I would highly recommend the book Why Home Birth Matters for lots of information backed up by evidence on this subject. Ultimately it's personal preference but I found the book very informative.

It's not personally something I would consider as you never know how your delivery will go, but each to their own and you should be supported by your local home birthing team if it's something you'd like to do

I didn't have one with my first as I felt a bit too nervous and ended up being induced but I really wish I had! I am going for a home birth this time around and hoping it's a much nicer experience, the home birth team have been brilliant and made me really look forward to it ☺️
