Side effects of epidural for c section and breast feeding

I had no issues feeding my girl in the recovery room straight after my section. I had a spinal block which is the standard for Caesarians. Milk came in as normal, colostrum for a few days. Sensation wise, no issues at all there. Sex and pelvic floor is the same as before baby. Same with exercise, no issues with sensation affecting that. Having my second section in December and planning on feeding again xx

Don’t forget that emergencies and electives are very different experiences too. Sounds like she had an epidural for her vaginal birth and it became a section? The spinal block is preferred for Caesarians unless you’ve been given an epidural on the ward beforehand for labour. It’s smaller, works faster, wears off quicker too. I was up and walking to the shower a few hours after recovery, carrying and feeding baby without any issues. In an elective or a cat 3/4 there’s no rush or danger to life, so surgeons can really take their time and provide a very calm environment. Cat 1/2 is usually all hands emergency, time is everything. She might have gotten some pelvic floor trauma from the surgery or from her labour beforehand even xx

Thank you both yes I think that is what happened as my friend said it was all very quick and a long labour after a drip which then lead to cat 1/2 , so yeah I think that she may of suffered trauma

It could delay your milk fully coming in a day or so only because it's major surgery and major stress on your body but it shouldnt effect anything else! I was nursing my most recent son an hour after our c section. Which is exactly how long it took for him and dad to finish up in the nursery and me to get closed up, final OR counts, and wheeled back to the room. We met at the recovery room around the same time and was immediately handed my baby to snuggle. He went right for the boob and immediately started nursing with zero issues. My first was a emergency section and baby had to go to NICU on a feeding tube and CPAP so I pumped. I was able to get a little out each time with my milk really coming in around day 3-4?

I was induced and on the hormone drip for about 8 hours with an epidural, then ended up having an emergency c section. (Also had morphine, adrenaline etc). About an hour and a half after he was born, he latched really well and fed for about an hour. Now week 4, still exclusively breastfeeding 💜 I also collected colostrum before giving birth. Haven't had sex yet though so hoping that all still works! My tummy is a bit numb but my midwife said that's normal

I’ve had an emergency and an elective (epidural with the emergency, spinal with the elective) and no, no issues for me! Currently exclusively breastfeeding my second. No lasting numbness or pain due to any of it

I had a spinal for my emergency c section. My colostrum was there when baby was born (the lactation consultant did say some women who have a c section it can be delayed). I found it difficult to hold my baby because I was in so much pain ontop of having flat nipples so I had to use nipple shields every time. I became a pumper in the end. Sex wise, it feels weird now. I don't really know how to describe it, but I much prefer external stimulation over internal now. The altered sensation around my scar can also get in the way as it gives me major ick and I jump a lot if it's brushed. It gets in the way of hugs too

I had a spinal and epi together as they needed it to last longer. Breastfed straight away no problem. Milk came in on day 2.5. No issues with sex.
