Skin to skin

I’m having my second c-section later this year (hopefully scheduled, but tbd because baby is measuring small). I was wondering how many of you were able to have skin to skin directly after the surgery? As in, while they stitched you up and then again while in the recovery room. Last time, we did skin to skin briefly after they washed him off, but they took him the entire time I was in the recovery room. I’d love to have the option to have her with me during that time. I know it depends on a lot of factors, like their policies and her health when she’s born. Just wanted to hear about some of your experiences. :)

I had a fair bit of skin to skin, firstly they cleaned him up, seen him etc (I could see but still a torturous 10mins) then they put him on my chest and he stayed there for ages. They wheeled me to recovery with baby still on chest and left him there for ages. He was so calm and they gave me an ice block. He latched and we just chilled for ages. Was really nice. If you want more skin to skin def ask them. It’s your birth, and your baby :)

I had an elective on Monday Once they had dried her I was able to have skin to skin in theatre whilst they stitched me up then when I got to recovery I had skin to skin again. Both times it was me who chose to end it

I didn’t want to think that I would have a c-section so I didn’t plan…only got to hold him briefly with a nurse also holding him while bundled they gave him to my bf where I found them back in the delivery room

I didn’t get to do skin to skin directly after he was born due to my antibiotic fluid being infected and it got into his lung so he was in the NICU for like 3ish days he finally got to come down in recovery with me on the 4th day I was super excited

With both my planned csections I got a few minutes after they were born but they went out of the room with my husband. My husband was able to do skin to skin with them until they brought me into the room and then I took over and was and up nurse them. With my first.... my emergency csection didn't go so smoothly and i was in and out of consciousness for quite a while but I remember bits and pieces of the recovery room and my oldest was in with us the entire time.

After they checked him over I had skin to skin for 10mins while they stitched me up… he then went straight to his dad as I was having problems holding him as I was shaking. the minute I was ok again he came straight back to me and stayed there for for probably 2hrs while they finished stitching me up and in recovery. Ask to make sure that you can have skin to skin asap. Like others have said your baby your birth

I help my baby as soon as her checks were done but then had to give her to my husband as I had shakes from the meds etc. Afterwards in recovery I had skin to skin for the entire hour or so we were in there x

I was briefly able to but then I was shaking so much I couldn't actually hold him in place on my chest so dad ended up holding him

I had skin to skin right away while they stitched me up and in the recovery room. They never took my singleton or twins from me in recovery.

They put him on me for skin to skin as soon as they got his lungs clear (it took about 5-10 minutes of suction once he was out) and he literally never left me after that until I was ready for it. They wheeled in me out of the OR with him on me and they helped me establish breastfeeding in recovery and then he was on me when they transferred us to our room. I explicitly asked for this specifically pre-op and they were more than happy to oblige. I’ll say that I had the shakes too, and they just helped stabilize him so that he could stay on me anyway

I held her straight away and the whole time I was in the recovery room, but she was wrapped in a blanket as they told me that my body temperature had dropped too low for me to do direct skin to skin

I had an emergency c section 2 weeks ago and as soon as he was born they got him on my chest as quickly as they could. We was having skin to skin within 5 minutes and he was there for as long as I wanted him to be x

I'm sorry they wash babies? What! My babies first bath/wash was with us at home a month after she was born. I loved the milk smell she had. I didn't get to have skin to skin with my baby till I was in recovery but my c section was an emergency
