I had an emergency c section in August and despite it being an emergency… the whole thing was very calm and minimal pain! The epidural is over very quickly, then you’re totally numb .. I would highly advise to keep on top of your pain meds and harass the midwives as sometimes if they are busy they can forget to top you up! Take dark loos cotton clothing .. I used the frida mom c section disposable pants and lined them with maternity pads .. get a phone charger cable that’s really long … bring your own massive bottle of water .. bring your own ready made formula to top bubba up if your breast feeding .. I brought those Kendamil already made up bottles which was a god send as I didn’t produce enough milk of my own .. bring lots of snacks that don’t need refrigeration.. ear plugs and eye masks are essential! Flip flops and towel and shower gel xx
@Amanda I have my section booked in for this week and the worry is starting to trickle in… sorry if it’s tmi but how much did you bleed vaginally after your section? I’ve got the Frida mom briefs and thick pads I just have no idea what to expect in that department?! 🙃
I’m 6 days PP after an emergency C section. Although it was an emergency, i was in a great hospital that made me feel at ease and encouraged me to put on music which helped calm me down as I was so nervous so i’d recommend making a playlist and bringing a speaker. I was worried about the recovery, but i’ve been pleasantly surprised , healing really quickly, paracetamol a day and the mild throbbing of the wound goes away. A supportive partner or friend/ family makes all the difference to ensure you don’t overstrain yourself too.
Yes, had an elective one on Wednesday which was such a positive experience! Staff was amazing and made me feel so much calmer about everything. If your birthing partner is allowed to stay over, make sure they do. The staff where I gave birth didn't encourage partners to stay over but you'll need help with everything and I would have really struggled without my partner there! Drink loads of water, move around as much as you can when possible and listen to your body xx
