Hiya. There’s a home birth support run by NCT volunteers. Check out their Facebook page. They meet the last Thursday of every month usually. https://www.facebook.com/NCTPlymouth If the link doesn’t work just search for NCT plymouth
I’m planning a homebirth in Plymouth. I’ve also heard that availability on the day can affect service. But my midwife also said to stand my ground at home until they send someone out. I’m actually an ex homebirth midwife myself (new to Plymouth from London) and well aware of the tactics used to get labouring women into trusts when they planned to birth at home. I have my 36 week appointment at home this week and will make it clear that because of an absence of a midwife led unit/birth centre I will not be attending hospital unless there are real concerns. It’s simply not right to only offer delivery suite and nothing else. It’ll be something I’ll address professionally once I’m back to work.
Thank you all for your messages ❤️
I’m pregnant with my first as well. I wanted a home birth but the midwife really put me off it as I don’t like the idea of being unsure until the day I go into labour of whether there will or won’t be a midwife available. And let’s be honest they are nearly always understaffed. I would love a private midwife but they are just so expensive that we can’t afford it… I’m instead going to go with the plan of going to a birthing unit, either Exeter or Truro, as I feel like this is my next best option.
