Do they provide food, if they do is it prepared onsite. What is the routine for the day, can this be changed if for example my baby goes for a nap at a set time not in routine. What is the procedure if baby gets hurt, an accident or by another child? How often is the nursery closed (I didn't notice or check and didn't realise mine was closed Christmas week ... I mean on reflection it seems sensible!)
I would ask: - illness/sickness policy including what happens if your child gets a temperature onsite - medication policy - nap set up (if in main room or separately and if safe sleep guidance is followed) - are the children taken outside (garden/walk) daily - where nappies are changed and if they supply nappies/wipes (one nursery we looked at changed them in the main room which i didn’t like) - holiday policy (some let you off fees when you take child out for a week or two) - most will charge when you go on holiday and on bank holidays even though they aren’t open - really important if you are using funded hours if there are any restrictions on when you can use this code - our eldest child’s preschool only allowed free hours from 9-1pm and as she only went 3 days a week we missed out on half our funded hours!
Amazing,thanks ladies!
Definitely ask about their safeguarding policy! This was a massive one for me. If they have cctv. Where they change the babies. Are they alone with them and out of sight at all. Very important questions
How do you put the babies to sleep? I have a baby that fights naps so the nursery's answer to that question really reassured me.
