School

Would you put your 2 year old into school? Ex. They have to go 6 hrs in total, and you’re still going to university. Why?Why not?

Daycare/preschool i would but school school no

2 year olds don't need to be in any form of childcare setting.

6 hrs a week sounds ok if its for social reasons, but at 2, unless you really need the time off, I think a mom's group with parents around would be a better setting.

@Bonny no she will be going to school Monday - Friday 6 hrs each day

@Monique i mean its a preschool for kids 0-36 months

@Gisselle Rocha then yeah for sure.

I have 2 kids under 3 my oldest is 2.5yrs old and he goes to daycare monday-friday for 4hrs a day. My youngest is 4months and stays at home with me. My oldest goes to daycare purely to socialize with other kids his age

@Rachel May I ask how come ? from your perspective bc my two year is asking to go to school since she see her brother and i've been so down bc childcare is exspensive and 3K dont exsists where i live so she'll be home w: me another 2yrs and as a mom i feel so horrible .

Nope. My almost two year old is in early headstart, but they come to my home for an hour a week.

@Aleeana i do wanna take her to socialize more than anything becase she has no other cousins no other friends and i feel like she is getting at the age where she need kids around her

@Gisselle Rocha it's definitely worth it

@Andrayah because they learn everything they need to learn from their mums until they are 3, when they are supposed to start pre-school/nursery.

@Gisselle Rocha do you work?

I had my 2 year old in for 3 days, while I returned to work. She loved it! Peer socialisation is incredibly important for Socio-emotional skills from age 2. She's now 4 and still loves it!

@Rachel i dont, i am i full time student

@Gisselle Rocha can't family look after your little girl? She is too young to be going to school for that long.

@Rachel i think she is, but im not thinking about myself im thinking about her

@Rachel im thinking about how much more she can learn in school and help her in the future, if i could i would homeschool her and have her with me all the time but thats not how it works

I work as a 2 year old teacher at a day school (under the DOE) right next door to my 2 year old son’s classroom and I think it’s very beneficial. They get to learn social skills, motor skills, and necessary milestone skills because your agenda is dedicated 100% to them and their growth. A lot of the kids in my class have actually been influenced by seeing their other peers go to the bathroom and are wanting to start potty training themself because of it. 100% for it!

I also work full time Mon-Fri and the kids who go all 5 days definitely benefit the most and improve the quickest! There’s no wrong answer- Don’t let these other moms shame you into decision, do what you feel is right in your heart, you know what’s best for your baby!

Look into the program so you can decide if you think your daughter would do well in it. Ideally we would all be rich and have perfect lives, but we don’t - it is okay to put your daughter into childcare in order to complete your school/work

@Kassidi Daycare and day school are one in the same except day schools tend to go above and beyond for the child’s developmental needs due to the Department of Educations requirements. Either way, a program and its staff will be watching over the child. Hence, why I advised her to make the best decision for her child, as she is an adult and we all are, I’m sure she’ll do the proper research of childcare services & programs in her area❤️

Yes. In the UK, my baby went to nursery from 10 months and is absolutely thriving. My sister lives in New York and her now 2.5yr old has been going to nursery since she was 8 months old. People need to stop making mums feel bad for doing so, we have to do it as we go back to work, and it’s the same for you, to go back to your education and better yourself. So ignore the others saying no, this is your situation and you do what’s best for your baby and your family.

I may be wrong but I seriously doubt school at 2 is sitting down at a desk and doing maths and English. It will be play based with learning wrapped in. In the uk even nurseries need to follow some form of early years curriculum. I think it depends on your gut feeling when you go round and visit and if you think she’ll be happy there.

I would only if my baby is fully potty trained and can say full sentences to me.

@Gisselle Rocha everything they would teach her at school, you can teach her yourself at home.

Almost 20m old, goes to preschool 3hrs, naps another 2.5-3 hrs at home. Works for me but it's tricky if you have to be in classes during the pickup time and can't take the rest of them online. I don't plan to increase to 6hrs until she drops the nap, my friend had her oldest in at 6 hrs and he's a well adjusted kid.

2 years is too young for school. Do you mean daycare?
