6 weeks isn't excessive. It's time for the huhe wound on your uterus from the placenta to heal. Sooner than 6 weeks and you risk infection
I thought it was supposed to be 8 weeks.
@Arie I’m not sure I need to ask my doctor probably. Just feels awkward asking . I think she had told me 6 weeks
We waited 8 weeks. Tbh you can risk busting your internal layers of healing as well as messing up your scar and your core muscles recovery. If you want to really heal and avoid any surgical issues, you should rest. Your surgeon did a good job and you only get one body in this life, it’s not worth ruining that for a roll in the hay xx
A c section is major abdominal surgery, they cut through layers of tissues, muscles and fat. So while it's great your incision doesn't bother you much the internal healing is truly the important part. Any kind of additional strain can cause complications down the line. That's not even taking into account the dinner plate sized wound you still have in your uterus from the placenta detaching. Sex puts you at such high risk of infection due to that wound. The 6 week recommendation is there for a reason.
@MK that makes sense!
Definitely wait until your doctor clears you. Not only do you need to make sure everything is healing properly, vut you are extremely fertile after giving birth!
We waited till 8 weeks after.
As several ppl said the incision is more internal than the external cut. Doing anything too soon can lead to potential herniation in the abdomen aka your abdominal walls become so weak and or thin that your intestines break through. Additionally the placental opening that regardless of birth type is still there. Risking a lot of potential for infection. Yes a lot of ppl do it but I find it’s not worth the risk… I’m 4 weeks postpartum and I’m horny AF… surviving lack of dick is insane… but I’ll wait.
@Pamela Noelle hahaha. The ending of your response 😂 I’m on that boat with you too. Did your doctor clear you for 6 weeks? My OB said 6 weeks
The time to wait isn’t to do with your incision, it’s to do with the wound in your uterus where the placenta was attached. It’s a big wound that is at risk of infection. For context I had a miscarriage at 9 weeks and the OBGYN told me to wait 3 weeks to swim!!!! Because of risk of infection. 6 weeks isn’t that long considering the risk. Ps. I’m a 3-time section mama.
@Michelle makes sense! I really appreciate your input! I truly do understand now thanks to all of y’all’s kind answers 😊 I know it seemed silly my question. It helped to understand from all of your answers.
@Michelle I’m sorry for your loss btw 😟
Not silly at all! I’m glad you and your partner are so affectionate! In the meantime, enjoy the baby snuggles. 🥰
