But is it normal to continue for 20 months after birth? Like almost 2 years
I’m 22 months pp and the hair fall is the worst it’s ever been. I’m losing actual handfuls now when I wash it. During a tantrum the other day my boy actually managed to pull a clump out, it just came out so easily. I’m trying out some vitamins to see if it has any impact.
Same. My bathroom bin in full of the hair that come out when I brush it. Baby is 21 months old now
@Lara did you have other symptoms or just the hair if you don’t mind me asking x
@Emma I was exhausted but I just put that down to being a new mum. I had a lot more energy after starting meds x
Mines still falling out loads after 4 years!
Like I never realised before but I have a terrible habit of just constantly throughout the day running my hands through my hair without even thinking about it and now this has started happening it's really difficult as I try and be aware of it and stop but sometimes I still do it without realising and then all of sudden I got a bunch of hair on my fingers and I also do it in my sleep! So my bed is constantly full of hairs. Partner is crazy over it lol
Postpartum hair loss is completely normal, and it's not permanent. In a nutshell hair has 4 stages, the final stage being when the hair naturally sheds. Usually every hair is at a different stage at any given time, but during pregnancy, hair is held in stage 3 so many hairs all catch up to each other while they're all at the "resting" stage. When you give birth, the drop in hormones causes them all to resume going through the natural progression through the stages but since a lot of them have all been held at rest they then all enter the shedding stage at the same time. Which also means they'll all enter the regrowth stage at the same time too so you'll have lots of baby hairs to look forward to in a little while!
