Elective C-section

I’m thinking about having an elective C-section. This is my first baby. I do have an apron tummy so would a C-section be a good idea as I’m worried about my skin rubbing on the incision and scar? I don’t want it to get irritated or anything. Pre pregnancy I was a size 24 UK. Any idea of where I could get clothes from as my clothes are getting a bit tight and I’m on an extremely low budget (less than £50 a month after bills) TIA 💜

I’m in the same boat as you. But I have read about on here and today I asked my hospital about a c-section scar and my belly healing - I think they can use something called a pico dressing which helps. Also, with regards to clothes the only Place I’ve been able to find things is Asda George but they only go up to a size 24 - they’re really good quality though. There just isn’t much out there for plus size maternity, so maybe try Simply Be’s normal range and size up?

Just answering the first question, probably not a good idea as I had an emergency c-section (went amazing tbh, really fast recovery) but I can just imagine already having an apron belly and the skin on it, I’d u do have a c-section I’d make sure to have a really really cool house to not make it sweat

@Emily my midwife told me even if I choose to do a vaginal birth they’ll probably still take me for an emergency C-section due to my health conditions. Hopefully they’ll have something to help me 💜

I have the same and I had an emergency c section 6 months ago. I had the dressing attached to the battery back to keep it dry and suck the moisture out of the dressing. I had this on for 5 days. To keep mine dry and clean I let the water run over it and laid on the bed after a shower and gently lifted the overhang to let it air dry. I did end up with a slight infection but nothing a week of antibiotics didn’t sort out. As for maternity clothes I got them from Vinted as refused to pay extortionate prices for something I would only wear for a few months x

@Charlotte I don’t know how safe one is to use after a c-section BUT they are called “c-section waist trainers” or something, definitely ask your midwife!! But maybe look into one of them, I wore one around 5 weeks pp and my waist has gone amazing! But Ofcourse I’d recommend you wear is to reduce the overhang. If they do say yes I wouldn’t put it tight but yeah 🤷‍♀️ xx

I had an emergency c section in December last year and my stomach covered my scar, I went along with doctor advice of keep it uncovered and aired as much as possible which led to serious infection and the scar opening up! So my biggest advice would be keep it covered with actual wound dressings to prevent it getting sweaty or rubbing on anything, especially when out and about, honestly was a life saver for me 😅 and then once it’s fully healed and you’re happy with it can stop using them. For clothes, I agree with the above about Vinted for cheap maternity clothes or just any kind of high waisted comfy trousers. High waisted knickers too are a must (I naively thought I wouldn’t need to bother with it 🤦‍♀️)

I didn't have an overhang or an apron tummy, but since my c section I've had one. You end up with one anyway with a C section. Essentially, you'll need to keep it dry, and I found laying down holding my belly up helped loads so it could breathe and I think that really helped with the heating. I'm not sure if that helps at all

I'm buying from vinted and just going up a size or 2

I would not get a c section unless you absolutely have to the recovery was so awful

I had a section, went super well. Recovery was absolutely fine. I showered every day and once showered I patted the area dry and then wiped diluted tcp over the area and then popped a clean muslin over the top. No rubbing or infections! Just keep it dry. As for clothes, I bought maternity leggings off Amazon - 3 pairs and bought 4/5 vest tops and just popped a shirt or cardigan over it, so cheap and cheerful! 🌻🌻

I've had 2 c sections, 1 emergency & 1 planned, I had an apron belly both times. After the pico dressing came off I'd clean it twice a day with just clean running water, I'd lay down & lift my belly until it was dry, then I'd put a sanitary pad against the wound my hang would hold it in place, I then changed it each time I went to the loo, I never got infected

In regards to the first question…I had/have an apron belly & had a c section, I was worried about the same thing, but honestly built it up more in my head. Just daily showers, pat dry, allow it to air after a shower and as much as possible (flat on your back) I wiped mine with wet wipes in the middle of the day too (not sure if it’s advised - just saying what I did and I had no problems) x

I used a folded unscented panty liner to keep my incision dry. I left the paper on the back and let my belly hold it in place lol. changed it 1-2 times a day and washed it well with antimicrobial soap 1-2 times a day. I did have some yeast rash for a couple of days but I used antifungal foot cream and it was gone within 24 hours.

I dried mine with the hairdryer on cool and low and it always stayed dry x
